Send them to hospital Grizz

It's more of a case of how to make a frag of it. They are all attached and spread thin along a rock thats under a few others. Not sure how to get at it to make a frag, but once that's done they'll be safe in my 80g

Lol, that's kinda funny. I can see it, hey, how's this one, he forgot about it, ya dude that's awesome, think we can toss it where he can't reach? My snails always somehow knock over my frags, no matter how much glue I use. :twised:

My stand alone system isn't working out, and it's more work than it's worth. So I'm going to build a smaller tank that sits inline. That also means no duplication of systems, and life is easier.

Who else loves Skype?

My little girl Felicia went to Malaysia for almost 4 weeks with my parents and she's having a great time. Miss her like crazy but at least with Skype, we can video call once or twice a day so that's not bad at all compared to in the past. With Skype, no need for expensive long-distance telephone plans or calls & you get to see who you're talking to. It's awesome.

Well, a search that started 15 years ago has kicked back into full gear again. My dad was left with his younger brother in an orphanage in Rhodesia with the onset of WWII. We have found info on his father, found half brothers, cousins and just today had contact with someone on his moms side. We thought my dads full brother died when he was around 19, around 1959ish, but found out someone had contact in the late 1970s in south Africa. All efforts now focused on finding him, dead or alive. Gawd, I hope we find him alive, I would move mountains to reconnect them, they are both in their 70's now, 50 years since they last saw each other. I just can not imagine, my dad for almost his entire life did not have a family, just us, now....wow...where to start.....

We have used it yes but it has not directed us to any contacts, more historical information. Unfortunately, being that on my dad's mother's side, the family is from Rhodesia and most have moved to South Africa. Because of the political unrest (and that's putting it mildly what has taken place) in Rhodesia/now Zimbabwe over the last number of decades, most records are lost or have been intentially destroyed. The doors on my grandfather's side keep opening and we are finding more, mostly due to the fact he immigrated back to Europe after the war. Thankfully, this person on my grandmother's side who made contact yesterday is as motivated as we are, is in South Africa and willing to help. If we were talking about Europe, North America, I'm sure we would have found something years ago, Africa is a completely different beast.

When searching for my grandfather, it took 3 years to finalize.

Oh ya, I've automated it and have autologon enabled, but half are in a disconnected state and we sometimes see errors (folder redirection, etc) come up where we need to intervene anyway. Mostly it's sit and watch it reboot. Then compile the data for median start up time. The other 15 hours is clicking everything and extensive scenario testing. Melt your brain kind of stuff. But it's all OT, so I'm happy :)

I would PM a mod and ask them to add "Pending" or "sold" to your sale post in the body or the title itself if your thread has spun a few pages. I agree that this visibility is helpful :-). If the sale thread is just a page it's not as big a deal but if it has spun several pages then this does tend to happen often.

Why not move the buy/sell topic once done to an 'archive' area. People can still read that area but no posting allowed. Archiving will be work but it'll make the general buy/sell area clean and neat.

When a topic is done ie all items sold...the member must inform buy/sell mods. Then at that point it will be transfered into the archive.

This might be more work than allowing a member to edit posts to add 'completed' 'sold' but will make a buy/sell forum clean with new items only. Of course this is a big suggested change...if that idea isn't liked someone @ sometime has to put in 'sold' in the topic title!

I'm not sure which staff member is going to do that. I know it's not me, and I have more time than the others. Sooo :)

This is really in the category of "first world problems" and not really worth the effort going on about it.

The "problem" is that the first world is lazy :-). If in perusing the Buy/Sell it would be more efficient if I didn't have to click on the thread to see if it has been sold. A "Sold" sign on the title would go a long way in helping with my laziness.

However, I do agree with the no edit policy on this forum as archival record of items sold and their values is helpful for reference.

:deadhorse:

The way I see it, if someone has no time or energy to click on something that might be a great deal for them, how are they ever going to get out of bed to go buy it?? lol
And for staff to do more to compensate for "lazy" just isn't gonna happen. We're all pretty lazy ourselves :)

It was from a connection on the return pump that was leaking, I have no idea how much leaked out but it was a pool of water under the tank as well.

Her sis was diagnosed with breast cancer Boxing day 2011 and her aunt was just diagnosed with terminal lung cancer (she's not even a smoker). So its really heartening to hear good news on the Big C front.

I wonder if I have it in me to shut down my two 230g's and my 80g and only keep a few of those fish in a 90g ish cube? Hummmmmm I wonder if there'd even be enough interest in my big fish to make it worth while to consider. Also can't help but think it would be a major PITA to try to shut it down. Not to mention how do I say good-bye to my big fish

Families take different shapes and you've made your fish part of yours. I've got a couple that I've had for almost 2 years and as frustrated as I get, can't imagine not having them! You are funny though, if the right tank came up, you'd do another one.....you said so earlier today...lol:lol:

That'd be the TRUE test of how addicted he really is to My Little Ponies Multiplayer 2000 or whatever the heck he's into these days. Laurie attempts to move into his tank... does he step in?

My hunch is you'd regret it Laurie. You like your big fish a bunch from what I know. I had one hell of a time parting with my Big Mac and only had him 6 months. For the last month he spent in my tank I barely ever went down to watch him. The tank had been gutted of all its coral and I didn't want to see him knowing that I'd be losing him. You're far more invested into big fish than I was.

That's cause I was thinking of how much cheaper and easier it would be to maintain a 90g cube instead of my 3 big tanks. There are certain fish more then others that I'm attached to that I can't imagine parting with. That being said though I'd feel guilty/sad rehoming the others.

I recently went over my monthly budget and I'm over budget every month by $500 in bills. Explains why my credit card is jumping up by leaps and bounds instead of getting paid off. Kinda thinking I need to cut back on bills before I get more into debt, and shutting down my big tanks (I'm estimating) would save around $200 a month in power and water.

Funny you should mention "moving into" his tank as when I talked to him about downsizing my tanks his response was to completely shut his tank down as he rarely takes care of it and rarely looks at it. Sadly his tank still looks way nicer then mine :twised:

Not 100% sure I'd regret it, but most likely I would. Somedays I think about how much money I'd save and how I wouldn't have to feel guilty for not always taking proper care of the tank etc. etc. but then I think about this or that fish and how much I like them and how it's really not that much work to take care of it (just a matter of not being lazy and getting it done) and I change my mind once again.

my relief at being free of the monthly costs out-weighed my regrets i have to say. that and i could also tell from doing a few water changes larger than 50g weekly that the tank would look even better if i invested MORE into it to do bigger changes to both water and all the media. Feels great to be returning to a volume of water I have had before and i also know the associative costs that go with it.

I can relate to this as well.. It was really hard to shut down my 131g because I was really attached to my fish. Both tanks started to slide as a result tho. I still miss my clown tang, emperor angel and parrot fish and banana wrasses.. It is a lot easier to maintain the mixed reef with only 150g as opposed to 300+ gallons across two tanks though.

I think we all have a certain water volume that's the 'sweet spot' for us while taking into account our current lifestyle. If you move beyond your 'sweet spot' you risk overextending yourself. Mind you that 'sweet spot' can also change over time as your lifestyle changes.

you nailed this so accurately. that's exactly it! btw i ran into the current owner of your banana's tonight at Big Als. He's promised me pics they're doing very well he said.

Although my large tank was small compared to a lot of yours (180)
I found it unfeasible to keep it running with the associated cost. I know that I could have been leaner on it. But that wasn't me. I went from that 180 to a 26 now moving to a 35g and am more satisfied with my small tank. Cost vs time I feel I get more enjoyment out of the smaller tanks. Thats my sweet spot but that can always change down the road

That's the debate I've been having in my head: costs vs regret

I can only afford (thanks to my mom helping me buy salt on boxing day) to do 60g water changes a week. Even then it's not enough to keep the water quality high  But how to pick and choose between my fish IDK (except for a few certain must haves) and to say good-bye to all the large ones would be hard

Ya that is part of the problem, my tanks have been sliding due to lack of
maintenance. Not to horribly but they definitely could look better and have better water quality if the water volume wasn't as large. Been thinking about what to do........600g to attend to is not my sweet spot by any means!

I would think you need to be honest and decide if you really enjoy all the tanks or is the amount of work/costs causing you to resent them, as much as you love your fish. I think when the resentment starts, its time to reevaluate what you have going on and decide from there. Why not keep one of the 230's and one of the smaller tanks and blend your favorites. You don't mention how you feel about your reef (corals), so maybe keep the large fowlr and a smaller reef, best of both worlds, but half the costs.

Ya I've always cared more about the fish then the corals. My absolute must have no matter what fish is my thornback boxfish. However by choosing him first and foremost it limits the kind of tank I can have. Boxfish need peaceful tank mates and low flow. I've also discovered too big of tankmates even peaceful ones stress them out and the rock work has to be set up in a way they won't get themsleves stuck in it. I lost my cowfish from him getting stuck in the rocks so I want to be careful about that.
