Did I miss something, I can't begin to see how this tangled web would develop into something not above board. Sure they know each other and both have an investment in the hobby. Colby is a class act and really needs not introduction to anyone on this site. His reputation speaks volumes to people in the coral world and needs no help from Mindy to promote his shop. Mindy has never done anything remotely underhanded or shady on this site to my knowledge.

Now if name calling is where this is going well let's just say my third ban may be on the short horizon.

Colby,

I read the post you did yesterday and I agree with you 110 percent. I think Canreef as a whole should be moving towards that direction. I hope Titus can get things rolling not to try to change everything at once but to slowly implement one thing at a time.

Sponsors should also start to add more life to this board, but as of now the only coral posting I see is Fragbox, Canada Corals, Bigshow once a while and that darn reef wholesale which is pointless for us on the west coast cause no one here buys from him, stop teasing us you bastard(jokes). Sorry if I missed some other awesome sponsors here who posts delicious coral porn for us.Another person is Ray at reefsupply, He is also good at posting dry goods and new products. This is exactly what we need. I don't get those who buys the sponsorship and not post. It just don't make business sense to me. If you want to throw money away please throw it my way.

Anyways, as far as your relationship with Mindy, it doesn't really matter. As long as it doesn't affect her judgement on the board then who cares. We are all friends in this hobby.

I just went lifting today for the first time in about 11 months. Holy crap, I lost that strength fast! I did 8x8 back squats with an empty barbel (55lbs) and almost died. I'm sore as hell. Considering my max a year ago was double my body weight. After lifting I ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes and had to stop 3 minutes in to roll out my quads (oh the pain!).

Sorry, no, tofu is not on the menu here lol Meat. Lots of meat. If it's not protein, it's a garnish.

This one's for Brad. I apparently was bored this evening and thought I'd share with him my artery clogging, coronary inducing 4 layered sandwich.....and of course.....pastries. There was a donut for the picture....but....I ate it beforehand (wasn't thinking).

What you have before you is Bacon....lots of Bacon, BBQ Chicken Breast, and BBQ Steak Shavings for protein. What you don't see is the fried egg I put on one of the layers for good measure. There are token veggies for garnish - BUT.....bonus points for carmelizing the onions and mushrooms in Bacon drippings. Binders - Melted Mozeralla, Havarti, and Mayonnaise. Tomatoes for colour and lettuce for texture (who doesn't like crunchy things?)

Pastries are from a nearby bakery - that makes their own real cream.

I would have included a picture of some alcoholic beverages that I used to wash down the sandwich......but was uncertain of the "Rules" and criteria posted in the "other" thread to get post count and activity up. ;)

P.S. - Before anyone asks: "Why such a cheap paper plate for such a sandwich?".....Answer: "I'm lazy and knew I wouldn't be moving much after inhaling that amount of lovely grease."

Japanese Culinary Masters are rolling in their graves and weeping at this very moment. I humbly submit to you: Deep Fried Panko Battered Big Macs and McDoubles.

My family knew I was already off the deep end with reefing. Now to start up the fryer and head to McDonald's in the middle of the night for a culinary experiment......yeah it's sad. I did learn that you can request for a "side order" of Mac sauce; and it apparently comes in an Espresso cup.

Enclosed are pics of the "before" and the after". I used "Omega 3" eggs because I might as well be healthy during this little experiment.

It's the Panko batter that makes it "light" and crispy if that makes any sense. Believe it or not; the Deep Fried McDouble tasted better. Both were good but the McDouble was tastier.

Some frozen pizzas actually have BBQ instructions on the box. This one did not and I couldn't regulate the heat low enough with the lid closed, so it took probably 2-3 times longer than it should have - wasn't watching the clock. It turned out great with a nice, crisp crust - not wreck-your-mouth burnt.
Just rotate it 1/4-1/2 turns regularly and wait 'till it starts to bubble.
It was awesome

Well, a few things..

1. my phone is like 4 years old, which by cell phone biology makes it rather geriatric.
2. I'm quite abusive with my phone as well. I run with it quite often which means it is constantly exposed to sweat (and sometimes tears). I run with it all over the world and in the winter so ya, there's definitely hot (ran outside in a humid +40 degrees) and cold (ran outside in a chilly -40).
3. I had my battery replaced this past spring but that didn't really help much. I'm suspecting the charging mechanism is defective now or there's major corrosion somewhere in the phone causing a short.

I could do the whole hardware upgrade thing with my carrier but I've been holding off on that because all the new phones are so gigantic. I'm still rocking an old school 4.7" screen which fits my dainty hands (and pockets) perfectly. In fact, I'm pretty sure they stopped making cell phones altogether and have started to just manufacture small/mini tablets that happen to make calls as well.

oops, I think this stopped being so random.

Speaking of geriatric, I finally ditched my old Blackberry Curve. I couldn't kill it. Tried many times. I have fished it out of the lake, dropped it from 20' up onto cement (back cover and batteries exploded out of it), lost it in a snow covered parking lot (fell out when getting out of the car), and found it the next day (luckily no one drove over it). And the batteries are still good...

Bought a new Sony Z5 Premium just last week, quite a step up from the last one, haha. Love it,... and great camera (23 MP)...

Ice roads are extremely boring...best to find a good radio station and hunker down. Highway Through Hell in Alberta is filmed on the same highways I hauled on. I've seen a few trucks I know on the show.

I used to like watching the odd episode of the fly boys flying old DC3's up north, think the show is Ice Pilots or something similar. Most reality shows of this nature need some extra dramatization to keep folks watching, that is, folks that don't have experience in whatever it is that's going on, whether it be trucking, flying.... Anyone ever actually in those occupations knows how utterly boring it can be.

Either way, it's moot, since I cut the Shaw TV service long time ago & now only pull in Global via antenna in the attic. They don't run those shows, I have to be content with Survivor!

Heck, half the people I talk to in Metro Vancouver don't even know how to jump start their vehicles and a couple of them had no idea where their car battery is. Now that's just lame.

 ...and he'll be driving away with it still plugged in for sure!

What scared me when I was logging is all the guys that didn't know how to put on chains! Logging = chains. There was a time when I was chaining up my truck, and there was a new guy there already that obviously was having a heck of time. I had my chains on in about 6 minutes, and he still wasn't done. Being a female trucker, it's hard to try to give most men any tips or anything, so I didn't usually bother unless I was asked, but the guy had the one on inside out (the spiky gripper parts going into the tires rather than going onto the ground). I offered a hand, but he wasn't interested, so I just suggested he might want to "turn that one right way out", he told me the spiky parts kept the chains from slipping on the tires and I should mind my own business. Ok, fair enough. So 45 minutes later I'm on my way out when I hear on the radio that "an empty" (a truck coming in) is stuck on the hill. It's buddy with the inside out chains! So me along with 3 other trucks have to wait over an hour for the grader to get over there and drag the guy up the hill while harassing him for having his "jewelry" on inside out. He didn't look at me on his way by. Maybe a little :o I never saw him again after that. I think maybe he pooped his pants on the way out with a load on, and decided it wasn't for him.

Yup I used to help my dad put chains on all the time (he worked for highways) and it was funny watching highway long haul truck drivers laughing at my dad for putting chains on a dump truck yet a few miles up the road who do we see usually it was the drivers who didn't put chains on either stuck or struggling to put chains on.

Sadly for me if I was to try it today I would struggle to put chains on been 20 years since I've helped put chains on.

I am gonna rant

Why is it that at Christmas time almost everyone panic shops I realize some people it comes down to finances and time to do so but for the rest of us there is no excuse all my shopping is always done last week of November first week of December. Most people wait and procrastinate then the fire works begin I've seen fights and shopper rage over the stupidest things I've watched middle aged women go at each other like we see during the US Black Friday sales and worst of all I've watched as children are pushed, stepped on and yelled at just because some idiot is panic shopping or in their own world.

Christmas I think has lost its lustre and people really don't understand that this is for the kids this is their time to shine and be happy. I don't go for all the religious nonsense but I do believe that this is a special time of year for the kids as for them its magical and allows them to escape reality. Adults it seems often forget who this is for and become raving lunatics who must run to be the first to get xx toy, item or what have you.

Slow down enjoy Christmas for what it is not shopping chaos, trampled kids and ****sed off shoppers

Rant off

Super El Niño vs The Blob! How's that for a random thought? Came to me while listening to CBC radio yesterday on the way up to the ski hill. A scientist from Victoria was describing this "Blob" of unusually warm ocean water in the Gulf of Alaska that formed around 2013 & is expected to dissipate in the near future. You'd think a community of highly educated scientific folks would come up with a more 'scientific' term for this phenom?

In any case, listening to this program about Super El Niño and The Blob duking it out over who's going to determine the weather along the west coast & inland, reminded me of the good old Japanese horror flick genre way back when. You know, Godzilla, Mothra et al. Hence the title of this thread!

Not sure who's winning, but there were certainly dire predictions about the possible effects on the snowy season due to Super El Niño. It's been a better than average start for snow sports enthusiasts thus far, so I say, bring it on, in your face Super El Niño. I hadn't heard of "The Blob" prior to yesterday so did a little research. Apparently it's had a negative effect on certain marine species adapted to cooler waters, such as salmon & brought some warmer water species up to have a look around a bit farther north.

I can't help but feel a little skeptical sometimes about the seemingly conflicting/changing weather/climate forecasts. I think they have much better equipment/instruments now for measuring temperatures in oceans and the atmosphere. But I also think blobs and El Ninos have been around for a lot longer than we are being led to believe.

And yeah, despite the dire forecasts, best snow and ski season here that we have seen for a long time.

The great thing about people is that we're all different! :p I imagine you work something like 3 days, 3 nights, 1 off or some ugly shift like that.

The shift work I did was different because it wasn't scheduled, and the work/off time was constantly shifting/changing. I was working 15 hour "days" which could start/end at any hour of the day or night, off for 8 hours (sleep for 6.5), 15 hours on again, 14 days straight, 2 days off, then do it all again. I was tired enough that I always slept well - unless I had a couple days off then I'd be all messed up.

I happen to like shift work a lot I don't have to join the rat race on the weekends competing with all the other Monday to Friday people to go shopping at the same stores at the same time and deal with weekend warriors and weekend drivers shift life has been good to me

4 shifts 12 hrs each shift 2 day shifts 2 nightshifts 4 days off days off move a day ahead every week and get more vacation time than the 9 to 5ers

When I worked on a salmon farm near Powell River years ago, I would do 10 days on, 4 days off, which would allow me to catch the ferry down to Vancouver to spend 3.5 days with family and friends twice a month. Worked out good. I told management I would just quit if they forced me to switch to 5 & 2, cause no job in my mind is worth giving up my family & friends (it's about 4-4.5 hours each way commute so 2 days off meant never coming down).

Mine changes all the time Myka depending on posting. Currently I have a terrible schedule. I work 7 nights, 3 off, 7 days & 4 off. The nights end at 4am on a day off. Also every forth set of days off you work an extra shift as cover off. Weekends 10 hours, rest 8 hours and in reality.. Your 8s are 10s and your 10s are 12s with my longest shift being 19hours with 3 hours between shifts. Thats mostly due to shortages in the work place.

Not a lot of... Me time haha.. Most of the time I love my work haha

I hate acrylic inside the tank. It attracts algae way more than glass does, and if you scrub it it scratches! It's not as hard as the clear acrylic used to make tanks from, so it scratches really easily. Plus, it gets "waves" in it and doesn't stick to the glass well. It's not too bad to cover up a corner overflow, but it sucks when it's used as a panel or full back to cover up an external overflow. Black glass is where it's at! :D
