I had no intention of doing so. I didn't see it all, but I was on the mod's side from what I saw.

Ya like really Laurie don't be such a drama queen

I missed it all but did find the goings on & I must say the mods ( Doug & Brad ) where 100% correct in there decision and the post should have remained deleted.

I wouldn't read too much into that though. If there isn't anything profound to add then some people don't keep the chain of emails going. It's not usually a slight..

But here's my question to the masses. Can ice in a pex water pipe cause said pipe to burst? It looks like I have an ice block to the tank room. Of course it's behind a finished wall, and of course there's no shutoff for that particular line either. How freaked out should I be about what damage will reign when the temperatures warm up some? Should I be busting the wall down?

lockrookie
01-19-2012, 05:15 AM
yes open a hole to the pipe let it thaw from the heat in the room slowly otherwise pipe may burst inside wall and make a huge mess worse than the hole you just added cover hole with an access panel just in case

when pipe thaws insulate the area and teh pipe to hinder it happening again

Oh wow, I got lucky. I got a little jiggy with the RO, hose and sink taps and was able to drain the water below the block. Half an hour later it's flowing again.

Darn cold weather!!!!!

Lee is a friend of mine, in the last year she got married and had a super cute baby boy. She's been pretty busy so I don't think she's had a lot of time for canreef. I also think that some of the drama/silliness on here has turned her off from being on here as much as she used to.

A word of friendly advice? In this day and age emails get buried quickly and that's just life. If there is a case where a reply is warranted but one isn't forthcoming .. just send a ping. "Did you get my message? What do you think?". That's what I do when necessary, it works well.

decided to set up a spare 20g i had around as a "temporary" holding tank for some of the things in my attached 20 gal that i am switching out for my old 40. so i gets it filled with what water i have laying around, then since its not full yet<need more water> dump a salt bucket full of old fairly rinsed sand into the tank too.:scatter:

yeah lets make it a dsb tank so we can see how fast it rots out this time if i treat it nice :boom:..

Yesterday was a routine gong show, now I just got power back after a 5 1/2 hour outage and I have a plane to catch in 7 hours, any takers on my flight being cancelled due to high winds? These things happen in threes right.

Spent the day cleaning fish poop from the inside of my tank stand because my skimmer on multiple occasions decided it would be fun to eject fish poop bubbles from its skimmer cup holes. Good times. I'm hoping I get to do this more often.

Thanks man! I was into saltwater a long time ago but had to take a break from the hobby. I actually frequented this board but you probably don't remember me, it's been so long now.. Anyway, I'm trying to get back into the hobby. Any suggests on what a guy should read to get started up again? There has been so many changes since the last time!

Worst part about my controller telling me the power's out is that i know:
nobody's home for a few more minutes
the power went out at 5am
the power was out until 10am
I think I might have a slow leak in my overflow
the controller still hasn't turned back on........

F U stealth heater!!!!!!!!!! Had my stealth heater fail, it was blowing out black smoke and sparking my GFCI  So at some point between last night and this afternoon it tripped my GFCI. Rushed to help my Mom out this morning (naturally one of the only times I didn't check my tank before leaving) and by the time I got back home and noticed my battery back up power unit was out of power and the fowlr and frogfish tank had no power running to them at all  got extention cords started ran powerheads and a heater to the froggy tank (it dropped to 70 ) and through the long process of elimination I discovered the stupid stealth heater was the issue  What's sad is that I should of thought to check that first since the last time I had issues with getting shocked by my tank it was a different stealth heater that was the problem :bad-word:

On the amazing positive side of things  everything in my tanks seem to be fine.

So I have been talking with Chris at Reeflo Pumps on and off the last few months and he is sitting on a number of Baldor motor pumps that he's offering a smoking deal on (because the new aluminium motors they come with now match the size of the AOSmith motors, so they are a better fit for people who are replacing AOSmith motor Darts in stands and other tight spaces, etc. With Baldor having an amazing reputation for longevity, I thought, what the heck, I'll go for it, it's a new pump for 1/2 retail.)

So with that preamble aside ...

Oh my dear GAWD those pumps are insanely enormous!! I had no idea looking at pictures of Darts with Baldors how ridiculously enormous they are!!! Here I am all excited to look at "my new reef toy that came in the mail today .. whee!! *rip rip rip open open open* .... Ohhhhhh my."

Hmm. My wife was pregnant at 5 months and didn't know. My daughter might be dumb though, as she was born the next day at 957 grams, spent 168 days in the hospital and could possibly have brain damage. As is, she has paralyzed vocal chords and can't speak, and breaths through a tracheotomy tube. So it's hard to tell how smart she is, since she can't communicate other than with the sign language we've taught her.

There has just GOT to be a better way to test for this. I think the checker is really just a random number generator. :(

I had a friend who got preggo at 19. Her daughter was born at 5/12 months and only lived 24 hours. I didn't know I was pregnant till I was 4 1/2 months, I felt weird, nausiated, couldn't have any alcohol(thank goodness my body wouldn't allow it) and finally figured something wasnt right. No complications but I got a lot of how didn't you know questions too.

Are you using the new PO4 meters? Are those supposed to be the higher sensitivity ones? I've never used those. I am still using the old skill (original) Hana digital meters and I can't honestly say I've ever had those problems. Ya, she's 2 next month. It's challenging, but you grow into it. The couple of times she died in the living room and needed resuscitation were a bit stressful. We have a nurse in our house every night, also not a great thing, although the job of keeping her alive is a 24 hour job, and we need to sleep every now and then. Trach care every night, we travel with suction machines and emergency equipment, makes flights a bit tough. But we try to give her a normal kid life; we just took her to Costa Rica, where she took her first steps and played on the beach. All the bad aside, she's a great little kid and she's made me a better person.

Ya, she's mostly happy. She had a rough start, so life for her is pretty good these days. As I said, you pretty much grow into the role, so while a typical parent might find it grueling, for us, it's mostly business as usual. We have to watch a lot of things, and there's always medical issues (did I ever tell you about our emergency stay in a Jamaican hospital??) :)
On a plus side, she doesn't yell at all, and stopped pulling her trach out at inopportune times. Overall a great kid, and we're lucky she's come as far as she has. It was really touch and go for the first 6 months, we pretty much lived at the hospital.

she's made me a better person.

Most parents have the luxury of nine months of preperation for the arrival of their children, your wife and yourself never had that. Some parents may have been overwhemed at the thought of raising a child needing special care and given the them up for adoption, you never did that. Some parents would grow distant from their spouse and resentful to life in general, I don't think you have.

I don't think she's made you a better person, your qualities were always there, she is just providing the polish to make them shine. From one parent to another my hat is off and I salute you.

I can't imagine the struggles you go through every day.

Don't get me wrong, but it certainly doesn't feel like a struggle, it's just what we do. You transition into it so slowly that you hardly notice the extras (except boarding the plane :)). Most of the time you don't even think about it. Sure, we get people staring at the mall when we have to break out gear and fire up equipment, but mostly you just shrug that off.
With all the possible problems that we COULD have got, what we ended up with was just a perfect little girl that doesn't talk much
She may need glasses, or not, but mostly everything appears fine other than the vocal chord thing. She's quick, learns well and is quickly moving up in stats to match kids closer to her age. She's small, and way behind other kids developmentally, but she's catching up. It's tougher on mom, as she knows lots of other parents, and seeing other kids walking at 11 or 12 months, when your 18 month old is still crawling is emotionally tough. But, like I said, she's moving up quickly in the stats, and more closely aligning with the other kids.
This is a condition that can fix itself in time (or not) so we're just waiting and hoping.

Leah
01-27-2012, 01:48 PM
I hear what you are saying Brad and sometimes it is through these very special children we can learn something important, as they seem to accept the way things are easier than we adults do or can. Children are so resilient and we need to learn more from them.

All children are a miracle in there own special way and I am sure she has the best possible parents she could have. I hope for brighter times for her and the two of you. Keep on smiling.

Life throws things at you that sometimes others don't or can't understand, but its amazing where you find the courage, strength and resolve to deal with it (speaking from experience, different situation). ce nudis are done they starve then if it comes back you gotta go buy nudes again. ive bred them and its not worth it compared to other methods;)

I had a file fish and all it did was eat my zoas, never touch apitasia at all. I have a CBB in my 165 that is doing a great job but my small frag tank is loaded with apitasia.

I had a tail spot blenny that got them and his lasted for a few days 4-5 before disappearing, not sure why I don't see any on the barnacle blenny now after only 2 days, very happy he was able to eat yesterday night

Everytime I see those videos of the deathcopters they are improved that much more. It's truly only a matter of time before they're pretty much flying independently.

What I'm trying to say is ... treat machines nicely. They will be our overlords soon and they will remember. Ohhhhh. They will remember.

Sounds like I got lucky as mine were all pulled in the office.
The first pair, in my 20s, were about a year apart and the second of those had to be busted out, but all done in the chair.
The next pair were pulled in my late 30s and just came out.
If you are going to have some downtime for it, you might as well get them all out at once, but it'll be hell while you recover. You may want to do the uppers separately from the lowers.

The Grizz
02-03-2012, 02:47 AM
Unfortunately the dentist I went to see last year when one got impacted said the only way an oral surgeon would remove mine is all at once as they will have to cut them out. All 4 are at an angle into my jaw joint.

$400 to fix a hose???

That was my initial thought as well, however I called a friend who works for Chrysler Canada and he said the hose is a high pressure hose and the part is $200 and probably would take 2hrs to replace so $200 for labor and tax.

I can't remember the exact number but a few years ago I had to pay 300 and change to replace a thermostat!!! The part was as expected about about 15 bucks the rest was labour. They had to take a ton of crap off the get to the thermostat..

Just for a laugh!!

The Black Bra (as told by a woman)

I had lunch with 2 of my unmarried friends.
One is engaged, one is a mistress, and I have been
married for 20+ years.

We were chatting about our relationships and decided
to amaze our men by greeting them at the door
wearing a black bra, stiletto heels and a mask over our eyes.
We agreed to meet in a few days to exchange notes..

Here's how it all went.

My engaged friend:
The other night when my boyfriend came over he
found me with a black leather bodice, tall stilettos and a mask.
He saw me and said, 'You are the woman of my dreams.
I love you..' Then we made passionate love all nightlong.
The mistress:
Me too! The other night I met my lover at his office and I was
wearing a raincoat, under it only the black bra, heels and
mask over my eyes.. When I opened the raincoat he didn't say a word,
but he started to tremble and we had wild sex all night.
Then I had to share my story:
When my husband came home I was wearing the black bra,
black stockings, stilettos and a mask over my eyes.
When he came in the door and saw me he said,
"What's for dinner,Batman?"
