Very sorry to hear that :( I am sure he got his 15 golden years with you. I had some fish that had lived in my tank for almost 8 years, when they died I felt like some of my family members passed away.

We acquired him a year and a half or so ago from a fellow can reefer. He loved snoopy too. I was at first skeptical on his age, but learned this fish had grown up with this guys kids..He quickly became one of our favorite fish. He started showing signs that his age was catching up to him in the last couple weeks. We're pretty bummed out.
Awesome fish though.... Will entertain getting another one day :)

i love working long hours the weeks fly by, the cehques are big and after a long shift like 18hrs it feels so good to get a hot shower and crawl into bed knowing you got to do it all again in a few short hours.....being burned out makes me feel good, doing a good hard days work makes me feel a sense of self pride:):)

that being said though if i won the lottery i could be quite happy spending my days on the beach drinking magaritas in between dives hehehe:):)

i think laurie just cringed a little lol shes like woa woa wait now...unemployed lol

being unemployed was ok for a bit but its being very stressfull now ive used up all my extra income i now have everything maxed out bills are behind and im in a position now where i pretty much have to sell the tank , december is a horrible month to have to look for work as everything kinda slows down......ive gotten quite the few raw burns from employers so far....the first 2 i worked for ran out of work and i was forced to either look for work elsewhere or wait a week or 2 in between jobs....the third didnt pay me....was supposed to start with a comany on fri doing the bow skyrise downtown, friday he tells me to come back monday(after i got up at 5 to go all the way downtown) and then i did it again on monday got up at five went down there....theyre nowhere to be found and he doesnt answer his phone......so i said ***k that and even today a guy says come have a coffee and we will look at the job, says he will call me in an hour with an address....never heard back from him so i left a message saying to give me a shout and im back to square one again lol....did i mention F M L .....have yet another interview tomorrow with yet another commercial company so we will see how that goes i spose

this is the first time i have ever been unemployed since i was 14, even in high school i worked.....i have never in my entire life passed out a resume or even made one for that matter and this is also the first time i have ever gone through this trouble for work.....what the hell gives???

thats my rant anyways for the night lol

i know take my last employer so its ok for him to rip me off over 4 grand but i cant go after him or ill get charged, if i cause his business damage in any way ill be charged.....going through the court process is almost 6 mths by the time he appeals twice then there no guarantee hell even pay he could just rip me off again...and then still i cant go after him....there needs to be more strict hiring laws for small business type people or less strict laws......every inch of me wants to cause him harm but it will just come back to me so in a way he has the legal right to rip off as many people as he likes then just bankrupt his business and start another and keep repeating it untill the gov steps in....this is bs lol

karmas gonna get him good who does that to someone just before christmas

yessirie! Karma is a B! they all get it eventually the person I placed a builders lein on a few years back that never ended up paying me, just lost the house they built cause they couldnt afford it. theres a good example! I feel bad they lost their home before christmas but then again, they ripped me off at christmas (sound too coincidental?)
I'm also starting a new job in the new year I will be finished at Nait, and will start a decent paying job is nisku at least $30+ to start which is double what I make now, and only 10 minutes further, So I'm stoked about that, and glad to hear your getting back on your "fins" again  seems that 2012 should pan out to be a good year provided the world doesn't end (p.s. that parts a joke no starting a banter on this thread guys!)

I have friends in low places that would do anything for me ( 2 letters - H.A. ) but it would eventually get back to me as I have the most motive for it so I can't go there. I have decided that I will just sink his company legally & boy oh boy so far its working, I caused him to lose a $1.2 million contract due to a no drug policy. Now the company that gave out the contract is suing him for 20% of the contract. :pound:

My bro had the same thing happen to him in England, partner stole the company, he went into the office over Xmas break and everything was gone. One guy ended up in jail, the other went to austrailia. Bro restarted the company and just signed a $6 mill contract last week and in line with master card partnership. He maintained his dignity and all former clients came back once he was up and running again. Scumbags always get theirs in the end.

Congrats on the job Denny!

Agreed, if were talking about the same one I got a warning for informing someone it's not worth the time to ship corals from Canada to the states.

Him:
any insider tips at where online we can hook up with killer zoas like yours???

Me:
My tips would be worthless to you, what ever deals to be had would be offset by the cost of getting them over the boarder and no one wants to take the risk anyways. Just takes one duche border guard, lazy delivery man or scanty retailer to create head aches out the wazoo. Besides most of my purchases are browner peices from the LFS that color up in the tank.

Apparently this was me attempting to "Smuggle" corals over the boarder... Meh rules are rules... Lots of info there, just have too put up with the politics.

On another nasty note @ 3:30am in the morning last night some idiot pulled the fire alarm to my complex and had all 230 units evacuated. Standing outside in the cold for an hour with shorts and a hoodie has not helped my cold situation. Perfect timing for exams eh?

The green icon will turn into several as a person’s reputation grows. Where I have one green icon, Levi would have 2/3/4/5/6 green icons beside his name. Because he actually helps people and I generally make fun of people.

I left a comment when I negative repped you, you should be able to see it your User CP I believe.

I'm not sure about this reputation system. The premise is a good idea but people who like each other can approve every post they've ever made and people who don't like each other can disapprove that person's post for no real reason. Not sure how accurate everyone's reputation will really be.

Well it seems like you have to spread a lot of reputation points to other people before you can give to the same person again. Not sure how many exactly you have to spread it to but it's more then 7 other people.

Also is there a way to see who has added to your reputation and who has taken away from it? and if they leave you a negative message is there somewhere to view it?

Just found out that I have apparently given out to much reputation and I have to try again later.

I think Titus has a good idea here but might need a tweak or 2 like adding the user name of the person who added / subtracted from your rep but there might have to be a dispute panel added as well because of things like Myka stated with dirrerence of opinions.

I've seen it used on other boards and for the most part it seems to work out. You can't negative rep someone over and over again, it has to be spread around. People generally seem to use it as gesture of thanks.

Not that anyone persons opinion is less valuable then anyone elses but it can be reafirming to have your questions answered by a respected member of the board. From time to time it could be used as a popularity contest but it's pretty hard for one person to have a significant negative impact. You have to take the good with the bad and I think the good on this board far outweighs the bad.

true....but i hate my hang on back lifereef overflow box its ugly and im thinking internal center overflow with diy rockwall back ground to reduce having to scrape the backglass and starfire glass 3 sides. tank has a few scratches that peev me off. as well is tempered and i cant drill it. this tank is in our living room, the first thing i see in am and last i see at night... id love to put a bigger tank in the spot. but i think the weight would be to much.

what spawned this is that i can get a 180g tank with crack infront pane for 180$. i can take it apart have the glass re sized and replace the three sides with starphire for less than buying all new glass for the existing tank. as well since the tank will be off the stand and i can possibly rebuild the lower partitions and reinforce to add a larger sump with refugium instead of the tiny 20g sump that is there. when i built the stand i had it for a freshwater tank. never thought id be doing salt.

ok that was more than a random thought but its my thought process at this time lol

Sounds like natural and logical consequences to me. If she wants another iPod she should have to save up her allowance to buy one herself. By just giving her another one you are teaching her that it is ok to do something wrong and someone else will bail you out and you can get away with it.

I understand it was probably wasn't done on purpose and was a mistake but if a person doesn't have consequences for their mistakes how is that person supposed to learn anything.

Take it from me, my parents created a spoiled monster (mom says I wasn't so bad but I think at times I was) and I wished there was times were they didn't give in so much. Don't get me wrong at the time it was great but as an adult I still have trouble with people saying no to me and not getting my way or what I want when I want it.

I totally agree. I started young with Felicia. If she does something wrong, I don't give in and just replace it until she has "earned" it by helping around the house (either helping Mommy or giving Daddy a hand with water changes). Fortunately she is very careful with stuff so we haven't had that much drama over stuff being wrecked.

I know too many kids who break stuff and then their parents automatically replace it so they break it again and have no problems expecting mom & dad to go buy another replacement. Bad life lesson & creating a life long problem doing it this way.

Although I have to say that's odd, was it the big als in Edmonton? Just wondering because on several occasions I have heard different staff there asking customers what size tank do you have when someone wants to buy and tang. yeah in edmonton, but I never saw this staff member before, perhaps he was new, I know all the others there from being a FW customer for about 5 years, but this is the first time I saw this guy

Well, not so much my random thought... but my hermit's? I dont know what he was thinking. He spent the whole day in this spot pouting inside his shell. I 'let him down' this evening... he took a little while and finally started motoring around.

I've seen lots climb up the silicon... but never go back into their shell for the whole day in such an odd perch.
Im wondering if this guy felt vulnerable... He is a scarlet hermit, and the 3 other hermits in the tank are pretty 'ripped' compared to him, one is an electric blue and the other two, I dont know, but they are definitely bigger/stronger. This one is much more shy.

Scarlets never seem nearly as active or competitive. (to me)

Although realistically, any hermits roaring around during the day-time means hungry hermit; the biggest killer in captivity is starvation (leading to more intense competition between crabs in general, including but not limited to: general battles for space, fighting over food, trying to eat one another, and for shell space). There is actually an old issue of coral magazine that discusses the topic.

I used to have one that would do this......his favorite perch was in my birdsnest.....I saw him there the first time and thought poor guy, got stuck in there.....so I moved him out of the coral......two days later he was back sitting nestled inside the BN.....stupid hermie....after that I would see him there from time to time.....guess it was his own little sanctum sanctorum

Anybody care to clarify for those of us in the dark? Didn't even know it existed until a couple of days ago.

OMG!! Would someone just shoot me know & put me out of my misery please. Not only has it been a struggle to keep enough work coming through the door & care for my tanks & the wife's dog, plus it's not a good financial time of the year but now after escaping for several hrs by breaking there leads, my 2 youngest huskies just came home with faces full of porcupine quills. There's another $1000 that I don't have gone.

Greg... I know most people will tell you otherwise... but we've owned 2 labs, and 3 out of the 4 times my father and I have just pulled the quills carefully with needlenose pliers... and everything has been fine. Ofcourse vet-removal is reccomended... but the upon talking to our vet about it, he didnt seem too concerned. Hope their faces arent' too full! (and hopefully they learned their lesson... ours did not... one of the two did it 3 times over his life lol)

Cheers,

Chris

Another reason I stick with fish & corals & shrimp.

I tried quails for Felicia but our nasty neighbour called the city of Burnaby and we had to get rid of her pet quails.

Now down to only creatures that can live inside a fish tank.

I guess my mother did have the right idea all those years ago (I was only allowed to keep pets that could stay in a cage or aquarium).

Sorry to hear about your dogs and the $$ situation. Good luck.

Thanks guy I appreciate the kind thoughts, it turned out I didn't need to go get stitches after all. Hurc bit me good but half the blood was his. I hope 2012 turns around for use it has been a struggle this year and I have been a little lucky to be able to trade my skills to keep the tanks going. I have had several days where I think I would have to shut them all down but if I do that now I would not get back into it again. Would love a big contract to knock at my door ATM.

Ouch!
My Sheba Inu had that happen to him when he was just a pup, too.
Had about 20 quills on his snout.
Thankfully, he was calm and they were not too bad. None near eyes, or inside of mouth.
I pulled them out (it happened around midnight, wasn't going to wait until morning) with a pair of pliers and my son holding him still.
Still got the quills in a little jar for souvenirs.

Let's hope for a better year for everyone, all around!

Knock on wood, but I am reasonably pleased with my 2011.

Work has been too busy if anything. Isabella was born this year and she's an absolute doll. Family is healthy. Felicia has been great in her new role as Isabella's older sister.

My worse part of the year was major issues with Marine Velvet that began at the end of 2010 that caused me to more or less take a sabbatical for most of 2011. That and living with a neighbour from hell, but going to build a 10' tall greenhouse to block their view to our place this spring.

Overall, 2010 was a much more drama filled year, with the 220g blowing out on us 10 days after it was set up - which cascaded into all sorts of issues and casualties. 2011 was a vast improvement (again knock on wood).

Greg, hopefully your 2012 will also see things turn around.

I hope 2012 will be a better year for us all in many ways. It has been a really really really hard year for me and the family with my partner stealing all the company assets in Aug of 2010 and having to start from scratch AGAIN, almost losing everything we owned & the passing of my wife beloved father ( what a great man he was, love u DAD ) it has been a up hill battle. We got lots of support & help from my wife's mom & my dad but owe them a lot of cash. I have been waiting for several years to get my settlement from WCB from a serious rear ender I was involved in 2007 which has caused lots of physical pain and major migrains ever since.

I feel very blessed to have a great community of friends here on CanReef, some I have been lucky to meet in person, some I have talked to on the phone and some I have never meet but enjoy conversing with here.

This has truly been the hardest year of my adult life, it just seems like to never stop pouring down on me. The wife & I have talked many time about selling everything we own and just moving far far away from everything to live on a beach some where warm. I am not the type of person to express much emotion & talk about my life but right ATM I a just about to explode if I don't get some of it out in some form.

Over the past couple years I have also been deeply involved with Alberta Ride For Sight on the executive team but it to has started to really get to me adding even more stress to my already stressed out system. So with that being said I had to resign my position as Assistant Chairman, which really sucked.

COME ON 2012 MAKE IT A GOOD YEAR PLEASE.

Heres a question,

Tomorrow I am doing my tank move, I would like to try to bring up the pod population a bit, I heard that adding small piles of rubble amongst the rock work allows for a type of nesting ground for them to reproduce? Has anyone tried this?

The Grizz
12-17-2011, 04:34 AM
If you had a sump then you would throw some rubble in there but you don't. Pods will come in time but it will take time for your tank to mature enough to support them.
