So my company has been interviewing people for jobs for all positions and a lot of the interviewee's have been laid off gas and oil workers and many of them have either declined the job or actually walked out on the interview when they found out that starting wage is $27 an hr most said they will not work for less than $50 an hr

Typical of spoiled people who are used to living on $200k a year suddenly finding out that they will be living on a normal wage they can't handle it

I know the feeling of a lay off. Mine came as a surprise for Christmas!
I had to suck it up and take a lower paying job to make ends meet. Some trades think they run the universe! Welders are notorious for it!
I'm afraid that some will be humbled by the economic situation....

I went up to Silver Star again this morning hoping for another hit of cold smoke, but alas, temperature inversion arrived earlier than forecast & it was actually raining in the village!

Meanwhile back down in the valley & Vernon, it's still chaos after the major snow storm. Main roads are ok, but they haven't done very many residential streets. I actually got stuck trying to get back to my parking spot in the alley behind my house.

So does spelling fall under the realm of English language arts? If not, you're OK, his educator will probably take care of it at school. If so, sir, you need to bone up on that aspect. "aggravating"! Capital "It" in the middle of a sentence will also make an English major cringe.

I'm going to blame auto-correct and my laziness to unautocorrect

Also, ya, I'm not the greatest speller. I have a lot of misspelled words in my auto-correct dictionary, apparently

To answer your question, yes, spelling is a part of Language Arts. Thankfully the teachers are teaching him how to spell and not me. I just have to make sure he does the prescribed homework and occasionally explaining to him, "That's just how it it is son. I have no idea why there are two g's in aggravated or why that letter is silent."

Thought for the day.

Idiots are not defined by or confined to a nationality. They may be found anywhere & include a certain percentage of our own fine country.

I've done some idiotic stuff over the years & no doubt been considered one by others as a result. Thankfully the decisions I make most of the time fall into a relatively rational category.

Recently I've taken to giving a new moderator a hard time regarding spelling. Does that qualify as idiotic? It is all in fun Mr. Kien!

I can relate! My 1st language was not English either & many of the grammatical conventions & pronunciation of certain words (like "one") made no sense to me. "Won" sounds the same as "One"? Won makes a bit of sense phonetically, but one is really out there. And when I was in school, loooong time ago, the subject was simply "English". Language Arts sounds so much more sophisticated though!

I have a twisted, dry sense of humour, so even the feigned idioticity (not a real word) in my post is an attempt at soliciting a grin, if not a chuckle, laugh or guffaw.

EDIT: The fact that you did not notice me trying to give you a hard time makes me sad. Wasted effort at the keyboard.

Mexican Americans go to night school take Spanish & get a B.....

A line from the lyrics of the song Mexican Americans. If you don't wish to suffer through the whole song, the line starts around the 36 second mark of the utube.

That's because no one watches TV anywhere. Have you heard of the Internets ? You should try it. They have cats playing chopsticks.. wait for it.. WITH CHOPSTICKS ! It'll blow your mind!

You can get a first aid one from Acklands or such with the twist-on replaceable thumb horn. I like those. I had fun with one of them riding my mountain bike up the sunshine coast ... stupid drivers

That there is the reason I rarely visit the FS forum not to mention I get annoyed because a lot of sellers absolutely refuse to ship and it isn't all that difficult to do all you need is a box, crushed newspapers and ship COD but I might as well be asking for a parcel to be sent to Timbuktu the way most of the sellers respond.

intarsiabox

I don't blame people for not wanting to ship items to strangers at all. If they aren't hoarders and don't have a bunch of random sized boxes laying around the house now they have drive around to stores to see about getting some free boxes, pack everything up, weigh and measure everything, get a quote from Canada Post, then ask the buyer if they are willing to pay said shipping costs, drive to post office and wait in line to send the package and finally hope that they don't get ripped off. Businesses have profits that are built into their prices to cover all these expenses, sellers on Canreef are usually losing money on everything they sell and some aren't interested in being out of pocket even more money and time. If sellers live in an area which they have no problem selling locally where the transaction can be done hassle free why wouldn't they? Personally I prefer to demonstrate everything I sell to the buyer so they know without a doubt before handing me over a dime they are getting exactly what was advertised and can go home happy about their purchase.

Aquattro
04-09-2015, 03:57 AM
Agreed. I don't mind shipping terribly, but it's a huge hassle for me. I need to find a box, drive 15 minutes to a post office and wait there with a 5yo not happy about standing around. Overall not something I want to do, especially if I can just wait a bit longer to sell locally.
I'd never be out money because it doesn't get packed until I get paid. Overall not a huge deal, but I'd prefer if buyers just came to my house with cash :)

Ya, all personal reference. Some people don't have cars, have young kids, can't get to post office easily. Lots of people PM me asking if it's ok to send so-and-so money, or will they get ripped off, etc. It's not for everyone, so ship or don't, not gonna judge :)

I agree for most items unless breakable. You can now prepay for your Canada post shipments online, print the label and just drop off or even have it picked up if you're in an applicable zone so overall pretty easy but especially for me being located somewhat remote I'm usually forced to meet people in town anyway so much less hassle to ship on my schedule. That said I wouldn't hold anything against someone not willing to ship as it's certainly not worth the hassle for some people if they can sell local.

The vast majority of things sold are in major centres with a large population base but for those of us in smaller centres it sucks as in PG we are a 9 hour drive away from the major centres and for us the only option is for shipping or a 2 or 3 day trip. Yes I realize most sellers find shipping a pain in the arse and they have their reasons for not doing it but at the same time it's almost like we are in the smaller centres are being snubbed because we physically can't just jump in the vehicle and drive to the sellers place in the same city.

Yes I wish people weren't so intimidated by shipping because there is a huge amount of people who want the items in smaller centres but because as soon as shipping is mentioned all bets are usually off.

There's always great deals on the FS Forums. Your missing out on some good bargains if you choose to ignore those threads.
I've had great luck with every member I've dealt with. Everyone has a basic idea on how much something costs to ship. I give them a ballpark figure and if it's high than I'll usually eat the cost. I won't package something up and go to post office and get an estimate. My times worth more than that hassle. You just have to be careful who you deal with. Long time members who are active on the board are usually the ones to trust.

That'll be $403.20 including tax.
I said that its sad that those 2 fish will live their life and die in that $hitty setup as there isn't anyone that'll pay that price. Beautiful pair and Im sickened over this. I got him down to $300. I'm going be thinking about about this for the next two weeks over bottles upon bottles of cervecas and barrels of tequila. You, my son, have never had to wear prescription glasses behind a helmet long-term, have you ... or have you ?

I'm welding all day long right now, and I mean 8 hours straight. Included is all the smoke/fumes etc. I'm wearing a snorkel setup on my face mask under my helmet, ear plugs because I'm burning 3/8-1/2 welds and comfort/visibility is a MUST. You come hear what I'm welding for a few minutes and you'll agree you need earplugs. Then you'll see the smoke ...

Helmet quality is not something to skimp on in this situation, especially when I'm building bases that support 7-11,000Lbs.
And our Engineering Dept expects our measurements to be withing 1/16"
No wonder so many guys in our Production crew don't want to build bases.

I'm doing OK at it.

Greg, you can get a setup, that fits under a helmet, that has two hoses, that go over the shoulders and end up at just above your belt, on your back where there seldom is smoke. There, there are two canisters that filter the air. The ones I used, filter out not only particles, but all chemicals.

ya no kidding! And here's something funny.. when I came home to my flooded kitchen the first thing I did was google for a clean up crew to come in and help with the clean up. I found a local company and right on the front page of their website they had a picture of a dishwasher completely overflowing and flooding a kitchen. I thought to myself, holy crap I pitty the guy that has that happen to them! I guess that guy was you.

Our entire kitchen has been torn down as of yesterday. Today I think all the flooring in our house gets ripped out. Friday i have a meeting with my insurance adjustor to decide what the rebuild process will look like. In the meantime we are eating out a lot and making the kids lunches and eating breakfast in their bedrooms

And on a reef related note.. all week as the clean up clean up crew has been working on our house ripping apart our kitchen and the room that was flooded underneath the kitchen they have been turning off the breaker which happens to include the tank. So far every day this week (and last weekend) they have been forgetting to turn the breaker for the tank back on so I've been coming home from work to a dark and still tank  So much fun I can't contain myself right now.

No, explain to your adjuster that the contractor actions will result in the cost of the claim going up when your tank dies.

Better yet have them install a separate circuit as shutting off tank is not acceptable at all.

Quick summary. A buddy stole his dad's car, picked me up. Greg lived next door and we all went for a ride. Cop tries to pull us over on Taylor Way in West Van, high speed pursuit to Lynn Canyon park in a 440 big block Cordoba, West Van, RCMP everywhere, ended with three kids in jail :) I was 17, driver was 15, Greg was about that. The best part of the story is this ...

Rich's frag swap a couple summers ago ...

Brad comes from the Island and says to me, "Hey, what's your last name ?"
I respond and he says "I think we were neighbors way back on Rufus Street"

Then the stories started ....

Funny how you can lose touch with people over the years and then find each other again.

35 years Brad

Easy now, in the early 70's my friend and I were in Central America for 5 months
He had a 750 Honda, I a 750 Norton. The only larger bike we met was a cop in Mexico City who pulled us over on his Harley. He just wanted to see the Honda, as the police were getting Hondas in the next year.

This is nothing. Fortunately, I live in a "cool" ground floor suite and by having both front & backdoors open to blow in cool night air till 5 am last night, my place never went above 21 C or 69 F. In the past, when our heat wave was in the mid-30s, I had to resort to my 12000 btu portable AC. So far, not necessary. BTW, my kids and wife are in Malaysia where it averages 32 C YEAR ROUND, with peaks in the 40s and near saturation level humidity at times.

When acclimating new inhabitants to your aquaria I would advise to use the drip method. The hold the bag on the euro bracing with a jar of salsa method can back fire when you knock the jar into you aquarium and onto your corals . Yes I did that .

Big discussion here at work tonight about how many numbers are on our cell phones nobody could believe that only 11 people have my number and that anyone who wants to contact me who doesn't have my number can call my home phone as it has an answering machine.

Most people cannot live without their cell phone lots say they can but most of those people would go nuts if they couldn't check it at least once per hour for messages, texts or calls. Me my phone is used mostly for the Internet and games to entertain myself with with the occasional call and more often for texting but only with the 11 people on my phone.

51 shortly and never had a cell phone until I was 48 ish. I have actually turned around and went back to the house to get my cell on more than one occasion and always think of how pathetic is that while I'm doing it. Just got rid of the house phone a few months back after talking about it for over a year. We got rid of the home phone the instant we got a web/cell-based security system for our home (Vivint). The only people that ever called the home phone were telemarketers anyway. Interestingly, we cut the lines outside and removed the Securtek panel when the Vivint was installed and when we cancelled our Securtek security system 3 weeks after the Vivint install, Securtek had not called us to inform us that there was no signal. They had no idea.

EDIT: Wow, 700 pages of random thoughts!
