Ohh, lets see, stripped down 600ft of steel cored telephone cable from inside of mine, checked, coiled, and prepared to reinstall elswhere.
Reclaimed 130ft of 3c/ 2/O cable about (3"diameter) and affixed to side of 100ft vertical vent raise.
Watched air physically move 12 inches back and forth in front of me, for about 6 seconds, after they lit up a bag of AMEX explosives sitting on a boulder!!! :D Now THAT was cool!!!
Ohh, and I had a coffee
Okay you deserve a beer I guess.

I have (had) a tiger cowry in the sump of my 40g setup. It was sumped because it went predatory on the carpets and did a fair bit of damage to them before I figured out it was the cowry causing the carpets their injuries night after night.
Anyhow I found it sucked into the skimmer intake last night. I thought it had died because it was hanging out of the shell, and I waited a good half hour to see any signs of life and there were none. I was going to toss it but then thought, well, you know, it's actually a really pretty shell. I should let the shrimp and worms go at it and save me the yucky task of cleaning the shell. So I tossed it into the display tank.
Guess who wasn't dead????? Great, I have no idea where he's gotten to, and now he's loose in the tank back with the carpets. Yay.. a miracle of resurrection. But ah, yeah. FRACK. :(

Whoever came up with the name "angel" for that kind of fish? It just seems to me they are anything but? By the same reasoning, a "flame hawkfish" should be a .. a blue .. a blue .. um .. what's the complete opposite of a hawk? Hmm .. Ok I know! A "blue pigeon".

It all comes down to perspective. My top down perspective might be a 2'x2' cube, when your perspective from the front is 2'x1' rectangle.

Cubes have 3 dimensions though ? What you are describing is only in 2 dimensions.
I think the proper term for all of these supposed cube tanks is a rectangular prism. Unless it is truly a cube. :-)

Actually, a prism is just an object that has the same cross-section along a length, so in this case it is a rectangular prism. In fact, we can generalize them and refer to them as cuboid (a box-shaped object). It has six flat sides and all angles are right angles. And all of its faces are rectangles. There also exists square prisms when two of the lengths are equal, but even those can be classified as rectangular prisms.

Don't worry about it. You have nothing in your tank so it is okay. The tank is cycling and this is part of the process. Once the bacteria starts to develop it will consume the ammonia and convert it to Nitrite, then Nitrate.. thus is the cycle :-)

At this point in your cycle I would not worry about doing water changes. I would let it runs its course. You would want to do water changes if you had livestock in there that would be harmed due to your high levels of Ammonia.. but you don't so its okay. You'll do water changes towards the end of the cycle to remove the final product Nitrite. Once the tank has finished cycling there should be a balance of bacteria which will convert Ammonia into Nitrite and Nitrite to Nitrate so you should not get readings for Ammonia or Nitrite. Then just water changes to remove the Nitrite.

you mean to remove nitrate :p so many thing, im used to my freshwater tank and the cycle is all done with fish so yea, thank you
Ya sorry, nitrate, my bad :-)
Some people don't believe in using fish to help the cycle along, some do. I think it is a bit cruel because the cycle is a very harsh environment. In salt water we are a little lucky in that we can use live rock. Likely what's happening is all the formerly live stuff (micro and some macro organisms) that was on your "live rock" is dieing off and causing the ammonia spike. In a way you can think of it as a blessing. Some people don't get such a reaction so they have to resort to other methods to jumpstart their cycle by adding stuff to their tank.. either fish or chemicals.

Ya, if you had livestock in there you'd definitely want to intervene with some water changes. But then in my opinion you shouldn't be cycling with livestock :P

depends on the type of glass
If your house is hotter then 1500 °C, or about 2700 °F its a liquid
any colder then that and its a solid

Old manufacturing methods resulted in inconsistent thickness and installation methods created the preference to place the thicker side down.

For example, 'He doesn't have no apples' actually means he does have apples. in some languages, such as Russian, a double negative is actually still a negative. How ever, there is NO language in which a double positive can form a negative"

Under normal conditions your wrasse could be very peaceful and unlikely to jump, unlike a lot of wrasses that seem to enjoy doing it just for fun.. but yours may have been startled by say, a cat or even some sort noise or vibration? Didn't your Purple Tang end up on the floor not long ago? I've never known Tangs to jump! But then, any fish that is severely startled can jump. They're not even intending to jump, they are just instinctively looking for a quick getaway which often ends up being what they think is a lot of water straight above them..

The new lids on the buckets of IO salt are stoopid. I nearly broke a nail.
Ya I hate those lids!! I still have a couple of pails of the super old IO buckets like 5 years ago when they used to twist/screw on with threads and a lock. So now I just buy the boxes of IO and empty the plastic bags into my old buckets. I HATE those new pales..

If those are the super old ones would would you call the ones I have from 10 years ago before they switched to threaded lids? :) What are the new ones like? I've been buying boxes now for a while on account that they're easier to recycle and I have enough of a bucket pile still even though the supply is slowly dwindling...

Hmmm...well as a post in the random thought thread maybe I didn't think much of anything...just a random observation?
I do love that we're able to buy/sell in a place where it makes sense to do so. Since you asked I think I'd like to see more discussion than buying and selling but it was just something I noticed.

Well now I do the same thing. Only now its corals. With corals that I see Im like.....need um, need um , got um got um , need um, got um.

also dont be alarmed if for no apparent reason your significant other decided that they don't like a certain food anymore. When my sister was preggos she asked me to make a tomato sauce using meat. half way through cooking it she made me throw out the beef because she didn't like the smell anymore. I don't know how her husband put up with that all the time. One day i'll find out i guess

No coffee, pop, or alcohol
Had fish oil & Melaleuca Prenatal vitamins & Materna pills (brain development)
Ate lots of fish (ie. mackerel) (brain food)
Drank lots of soya milk (for good skin)
Consumed coconut juice and dates (helps with delivery)
Try not to get her upset during her pregnancy - lower stress
Lots of prayers
Sing alot to the baby

Ya I'd say at least 60 times a day. However they're not to bad but I notice that if I forget to put lots of hand cream on throughout the day then they get really dry and will crack. I work in an infant room so after every diaper change (6 kids to change at least 4 times a day) nose wipe, child coughing on me, food prep work etc. etc. I wash my hands. Also after every time I use the bathroom, because even though I don't pee on my hands, it's still gross to use the bathroom and not wash up after.
