You've never met my cats!! Names are Razor n Chaos and for good reason. my black cat razor hates my bestfriend (who has known him since he was a kitten) and is always hissing and swating at him. I used to have this huge 8ft cat post and razor would sit on the top and swat people as they walked by lol i would be to worried about him hurting someone, not a good way to KEEP fish friends

VENTING: what ticks me off more then anything is people that say they will be somewhere at a certain time and show an hour later... like last night with the frag order... i said no later then 9:30 and that i'd be in bed as i am sick. 9:30 comes, my wife puts the frags in my tank so they live and heads to bed as last I heard he'd be there @ 9:10pm.... 10:20pm comes around, everyone in the house is in bed, lights are all off and the kid comes and rings the doorbell anyway, wakes up my wife and roommate(as i am out like a light on meds). WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE.....my wife then had to go re-bag all the frags and the kid didn't even say thank you, just muttered something and walked away. anyway i was supposed to pick up a coral for this kid tomorrow, but had to go today instead, still haven't heard back from the guy regarding his shipment or a thank you or anything.... so i sent him an e-mail and a pm stating if he's not here by 8:00pm tonight i now own the coral and he will get his $10 back. NOT COOL DUDE... and I will not do business with you again (as I know you will read this)

anyway people... if you say you are going to be somewhere... BE THERE... if your cell phone dies and you're an hour late and all the lights are off in the house... don't go ringing doorbells... or knock on the neighbors door becuz you can't remember what house it is (thanks for that btw you woke up their 2 kids)

why do we sell live rock cheaper than we buy it for... should we not at least get it for the same price we paid..even add a bit more to the value... seriously tho.. its cured tried tested and proven in most tanks..(given you use copper with it it should be decreased) you spent all the time growing coraline on it.. that should account for something.. never mind the countless hours spent getting rid of those nasty hitchikers (given some are cool...) you would think fellow reefers would pay retail for live rock in such good condition..

dont gt mewrong like everyone i enjoy thelive rock deals and prefer the pre cured to the nasty rock... i just thought it was funny how we undersell certian importants parts to the hobby

Simple. Live rock is a nutrient sponge. The longer you've had it, the more crap is built up in the pores. You see it all the time with people buying budget used rock, then 3 months later they have huge algae issues. And if the rock was really piled up thick, it's even worse. Years ago I had a 150g with over 200# of rock. When I dismantled it, it was disgusting. Essentially a big sink for sewage, and just stewing in it. Personally, I wouldn't use used rock if it were free. Who knows what's in it, how long it sat around, and how many months or years is it going to take to fix the problems it introduces.
To maximize the life of my rock, I use about 1/2pound per gallon, and ensure there is flow around all sides. To me, buying used rock is buying trouble, unless the owner is shutting down a recently setup tank. But over 2 yrs old, keep it!

The zinc flu is nasty. Had it once when I worked at a culvert plant welding galvanized. They gave us respirators but half the time it was too hot to wear them.

Great skill required and lots of reward with acomplishment. Have thought about getting rid of my tank, but can never do it. Just bought a sixline, 2 cleaners and a Open Brain today.

i used to sled as a kid i used to have a bike for summer but my job and my life has changed so much that i gave up most hobbies. then i missed having a tank and now im obsessed.

No you need an A/C unit.Pipes are getting colder then the air temp in the basement causing them to sweat.

The 180 gallon looked HUGE when we put it up and now I think we'll need a 600gal or more so my fish can be happier.

Did anyone see the new issue of CORAL magazine? The swiss couple with the 925 gallon on page 105 is gorgeous. I'm pretty sure I need one :mrgreen:.

on the topic of guns.....

while in vancouver over the weekend, I went to a gun show (actual fire arms show, not the gym lol) with my dad and he found a piece he's been wanting for years but couldn't afford or find for that matter... while he hummed and hawed knowing he'd be broke forever if he bought it, i told him to think about it... he walked away I went the other way, grabbed the guy that owned it, had him hide it just to be a jerk... went and got into a car with a complete stranger (was working the admission table and was with the association, so i figured i'd take the chance, asked him what he drove and he said a Jeep liberty and I said okay good so you're not going to kill me... he laughed) he drove me 5 min to the nearest ATM and back. I then ran back to the table and paid the guy for 75% of the gun... and he told me that my dad had just been back to the table to buy it and he told him it was sold... said it looked like my dad's heart broke. I went and found my dad (busy joint.. took a few min) put my hands on his shoulders and he said "it sold, I knew i should have just bought it" and I could tell he was really upset so I smiled and said "daddy go pick up your gun" and he just looked at me with utter confussion... I said "75% off isn't so bad is it, happy early fathers day"... his jaw dropped... we walked back over to the table, the guy pulled out the gun with a brand knew trigger lock on it, and said "on behalf of your daughter, happy early father's day"..... I don't think I have ever seen my dad so shocked and confused at the same time... except maybe when I told him I was gay! lol! Like a kid in a candy store he walked around so proud! It was great! it's not often that I get to do things like this, and I may have pushed the pocket book a little (but I still managed to go bug Jim and OA and pick up a few nice corals after)
He went home, and got online right away... turns out that because all the serial numbers match and it was in amazing condition... we paid 1/6th of what it sells for in the US and 1/10 of what it actually can go for in canada!

That was the highlight of my vacation home.... I just wanted to share my story!!! it was nice to get him something other then a princess auto gift card for once in 5 years!!!

lol! it's wasn't shared to get props... but thank you guys!!! I am very close with my family, they have done a lot for me and it's hard only seeing them twice a year for such a short time! I was just fortunate that I had been saving for new goalie pads for myself and figured my pads will be fine for another season or two! So it was a good feeling to be able to surprise him like that!

On a reef related note... I HAVE A FREAKING MANTIS IN MY WORK REEF TANK..... FML..... just spotted the little bugger while taking a break and staring at my tank... just a little light green dude about 1.5"
I blame my boss, he gave me the rock! lol!

I don't really mop very often (have helped mopped half the store's floor before, but it was the smaller half) and I admit I was surprised by the workout I got. FYI I don't really workout either, figure mopping is a pretty good start :lol:

All though it was on the piece that made me want to do this mod, it is the last one I got to.

I have a rant.

Sometimes I like to look at the local classified section. Okay... all the time actually. I'm currently shopping for some 'almost new' appliances for my new house. This has brought me to the topic of this post:

What is up with people and having a crazy idea of what their stuff is worth? I can buy a brand new in box stainless steel frigidaire fridge from Trail appliances for $650 today. What the F are you smoking thinking that you are going to list your 7 year old scratch and dented white GE garage fridge and ask $600 FIRM? Seriously? And who is going to want to buy a 12 year old dishwasher with a broken door latch for $200? Are you crazy?!?! Throw that hunk in the garbage already! I guess it doesn't hurt to try but seriously people... get real. Canadian tire down the street sells brand new Amana fridges for $550. And they aren't dented or scratched or 7 years old. Plus they come with warranty. You can *maybe* try to charge $300 for that used fridge - at best.

Which brings me to the best part. Three times this year this one person has posted an ad asking someone "by the grace of God" to donate their house or land to a "family in need". A HOUSE OR LAND? DONATE? I get it, hard times, blah blah blah, but this is Cold Lake, AB. You could trip walking down the street and fall into a decent job with great pay. Why would you expect someone to give you a house or land (worth at minimum around $80,000 for land or $180,000 for a piece of crap house) around here? Be realistic. If you're truly that hard up place an add asking for a rent to own situation. And don't throw a religious vice in there like "by the grace of God" - That's low. There's some very religious people around here and and that's not fair of you to try to play that card. I just can't believe the audacity of some people.

thats a little harsh i love this site. friendly banter and in general a great group of ppl. ppl like to share the things they love kids fish cars. good times and bad. you say blog ...isnt a reef journal a blog sharing your thoughts ideas and mishaps. ive learned alot of things.and concider mysef a newb always. cautious in the advise i give for fear of being wrong.. but through all the banter ppl are helped.. isnt that the point. why cant it be lively.. i prefer learning with a chuckle than learning through a textbook. canreef is a great famiy of reefers that truly care and try to help ppl succeed. i dont see reefers on reefcentral going out of thier way to ship a tank to the middle of nowhere tohelp a reefer out. or taking time to rebuild and personally deliver a tank cross country.. all i saw from my short time on reefcentral where ppl with too much money and time on thier hands ban happy mods. and reef bunnies with no tanks just talking about thier menstral cycle. given there are great ppl on there as well i dont mean to judge all as a group.

all in all if you feel that strongly dont log on lifes to short..if the mods and owners dont care why should we.. be happy and happy reefing to you..im gonna kiss some babies..while drooling over fish and corals.)

Hehe, I don't mind the useless banter as long as it is in the Lounge. I choose not to read Tank Journals that have a bunch of chatter in them. I've seen some sites where commenting in Tank Journals is only allowed by the author which I think is absolutely brilliant. Separate comment threads are made for the journals. That's my biggest pet peeve about the useless banter, is when it is gumming up an otherwise interesting journal thread.

On the other hand, I rarely post on RC...I don't care for those forums at all. Too many people and too political. I find either threads get lost in the heap and get no answers or they get 50,000 replies and it takes 3 hours to sift through 300+ pages to find the info you're after in between all the clutter.

FYI I forgot how much crab molts look like the actual crab. Doug's pom pom crab molted yesterday and I thought he died :eek: hoped it was possibly a molt but thought he died. Was very very relieved to see both pom pom crabs alive and well in the tank today.

Unfortunately I need my welder to run the shop for the day but luckily I picked up a couple back-up battery system's from my bud Rick. Playing with them now to see if they will do the job for the day on my tanks.

Well power is out for the next 4 hrs, come back on at noon & off again at 1 until 5pm. At least I am home, have 800' of power cords, several full gas cans & a portable welder to run my tanks and still get work done.

So glad I was home & actually received the call. Turns out they where replacing all the power poles along my road.

whats the job needed done? I drywalled and taped for 5 years :) still do it on the side from time to time.

the basement of my duplex, but i want the ceiling drywalled too... people are quoting me insane numbers. so much that i'd have to save another 3 years to get it done! lol! SO.... Pizza/beer/drywall hanging party at my place?! lmao! any takers! ha ha!! there's a bit to do...but if 6 people were doing it, it'd take like less then an hour to hang everything! i should have gone into the trades. they make a lot of money!

but seriously, a basement start to finish in a duplex should run you more the about $1800-$2400 at least thats what I would charge back in the day. thats including priming the walls touching up nicks etc, basically having it prepped to paint. some people would try to bid in houses that I bid on, like easily 1/3 - half more then what I would charge. its ridiculous.

we just hired a mud guy for the lowest quote ...was half everyone elses....he started didnt finish and we had to hire someone else. what should have taken less than a week ended up taking three.

everyones doing awesome, little one is rolling over and holding her head up, smiling, and giggling already, (like 3-4 months earlier then normal)....starting to wonder if all the steroids in meat had anything to do with it :lol:
