It's the ballast. I just saw the test light dim. Bummer! Well, I might start shopping for a new T5 light.

If it is the balast after all, does anyone know if they are repairable? I've had the old magnetic ones fixed at the local grow supplies shops, but I'm not sure if they will fix the electronic variety.

I'm in the process of testing it with a different bulb. Thats the less expensive route. Hopefully I only need to replace a bulb and not the balast.

Ya, forgot to mention that. It is an electronic balast. The bulb has only been up and running for about 6 months at 8-10 hours per day.

MH flickering, any ideas?

My lights have begun to flicker recently and I don't know why. It kind of dims and looks bluer when it does this. It does it quickly like a flicker but has also stayed dim for some time on occasion....

Old lights aren't always the culprit the GHA equation. GHA will only grow if your nutrients permit, and old lights are just an aiding variable. How are your alkalinity levels? I have found, as well...

You don't have a lot of Calcium, MG & carbonate robbing corals yet. So your coraline has plenty to grow on.

I've had a couple of BVA tanks and sumps over the years and never had an issue with it. I knew one guy who got his tank home and discovered a 1.5" scratch on his front starfire panel, but IMO was not...
