Default water level in overflow with durso standpipe

I was wondering if you can go above the "street ell" with your water level. I know on the durso website it says ideal height is halfway on the street.
I would like to submerge the street ell all together. Would this affect the durso?
Thanx.

It would increase the pressure of the water being sucked down the pipe and likely make it louder than normal.

on mine sort found the water found it's own level. Shorter the vertical pipe, lower the water level was in the overflow chamber.

Ended up went high to lessen the waterfall noise.
