Default Zoos are very toxic!!

This is a sad story and a good warning about zoos and how dangerous they can be.

Indeed Sam, and I have fragged about 100 zoanthids since that time, and have never had a problem.

I'm still caustious when fragging zoos or even mushrooms.I've been squirted by shrooms once or twice but luckly not the zoos.I think any time we have our hands in the tank whether its moving corals or just general maintaince,it still important to wash your hands after.Even minor scratches can become irrittated and itchy.

Bob, I'm guessing there would only be a problem if you eat them or get them in your bloodstream.

or if the juice squirts you in the eyes, or you get it on your hands then get it in your mouth while wiping lips.

Delbeek and Sprung note that several predators of zoanthids are not only unaffected by palytoxin, but actively store it in their bodies and shells.
This from an extremely good article by Eric Borneman in the reefs.org library. I can't connect to their site tonite, but can come up with a www.reefs.org/library/aquarium_net/0198/0198_1.html+palytoxin+in+zoanthids&hl=en&lr=lang_e n]cached version[/url]
from a google search.
