so what was your treatment plan ?? am battling the same thing

I've changed the RO membrane, switched the carbon for chemi-pure elite (has a phosphate remover in it),lots of water changes, clean the skimmer every 2 days, have the refugium light on 24/7, dropped one of the feedings everyday, slowed the calcium reactor down, add vinegar in with the kalk, increased water flow, keep the crap off the rocks and I do the "dino/cyano go away" dance daily

Was just wondering if there was video of the Dino/cyano dance. Sounds interesting and may be a handy tool to have if I get Dinos or Cyano.

The coral on the overflow was hit with some tissue recession and its browner then it used to be but will recover.

What does adding vinegar to kalk do?

It increases the solubility of kalk. Hmm I'm not sure if that sounds right. It increases the amount of kalk that can be mixed with water and still stay clear in the water. I know theres a better word for that but that will have to do, my brain is still foggy this am.

Not 100% sure about this but I think I've read that in addition to increasing the solubility of kalk (ie. getting more kalk into your system), it is a carbon source - which is basically the foundation of things like sugar dosing, vodka dosing (which is in the same vector as things like zeovit, ultralith, polyplaps, etc.) - fuel for more bacteria to do their thing thus reducing the nutrient load.

Something like that anyhow.

Seeing as how it involves the removal of clothing and vigorous leaping up and down, I think I'll pass on the video thing

Exactly that, it's worked for me in the past.
And like christy said, it also increases the amount of kalk you can dissolve in the RO water and kalk has been thought to help precipitate out phosphates

If its not one thing, its another, hydroids are taking over .

I think Its safe to say that a healthy, nonstressed sps can fight off a lot of things because now that they are stressed, hydroids are taking things down a polyp at a time.
