They have some nice ones at Big Als right now. In the bigger tanks above the LR holding tanks. A few different colors.

I got this from Gold Aquarium. They still had some about 2 weeks ago. They're loose in their bare bottom tank. You may have to point them out to the guy and ask how much... I paid $20 for this guy about 1.5" in diameter.

Thanks. Very pretty. I'll check there this weekend if Big Al's is out (I live much closer to Big Al's than Gold's).

I've heard that rics can be quite fussy, so I just want to try one to start: to see how it likes my system. I'd love a dozen of them if all goes well with the first.

Just as I was talking about not having been into Gold Aquarium for a couple of weeks, I found myself wanting to stop in to see if they had anything new. Bad idea. $150 and 3 LPS later....

Anyway, I browsed to see if they had any Ricordia left while I was there. I found two tiny ones that no one will notice unless you look really hard. They have a bare bottom tank on the second shelf in the center aisle displaying corals for sale. Look at this tank at the end that is closest to the front of the store. There's a redish mushroom rock and a few large feather dusters. Under this pile, there are two separate Ricordea, very tiny, about only 1 cm in diameter. You'll have to point it out and ask how much they want for it. Keep in mind that I bought mine at 1.5" diameter at $20. I believe these are the same species from the same source.

Here's an updated photo taken today of this ricordia in my tank, grown under 250w metal halide in a 26 gallon bow front. I dose AquaVitro Vibrance (ie Iodide). It's got a purple rim now and its mouth is brighter green.

Wow! That looks gorgeous.

Maybe I'll run over there tomorrow night instead of waiting until the weekend.

Funny how a quick browse turns into something much more costly than that.

Well . . . I was able to pick something up, though I'm not entirely sure what it is. I was told that it wasn't a "florida red ricordea" . . . which was pretty obvious since it is a neon green.

Then I was told that it was related to a "florida red ricordea." I don't know why the guy was so hung up on the "florida red" thing. I think it might actually be yuma, which is cool. I think those are supposed to be harder to keep, so if I can keep a yuma I can probably keep rics.

It is a bit unhappy after what I just did to it as far as dips go, so once it opens up I'll post a pic in the coral forum to get an exact ID. It was the last thing they had that looked anything like a ric or yuma, so I bought it: since the mushies I have are happy in this system.

I'll pop by Golds this weekend to see what they've got.

I love my rics, I'm up to 7 now! Lol. But I find my yumas tend to reach for lps to sting it so I have to keep them away from them. Other then that they're great, now im not going to start a fragalot debate here but burc has a good selection of rics at about $15 a piece I believe. I've got 4 from him in that last few months most with multiple mouths/eyes so they should split fairly easy eventually.

nice. I saw those Ricordia looking things at Big Als. They were all light blue in colour. Looked nice. I liked that they were bigger (the ones I saw last few weeks) at about 2.5" diameter and had potential to colour up. They had bulbous looking tentacles but were sparse on the oral disc... definitely nothing red that I saw.

I hummed and haa'd for a while cus they wanted $50 for 2 heads... then they moved them out of their open top system and into tanks over their live rock... still I hummed and haa'd while my wife was wondering why I was taking so long looking at these things.

Hopefully they'll colour up for you.
