LOL!

I tried the boiling water trick, and it worked for a bit, but the smell seems to have returned. Its fainter now though.

What are these scented rings for lightbulbs?

I think I have found the stinkiest candle around. It smells like fabric softener!

Can the smell be in the wood of my stand? Its strongest standing right in front of the tank. Its stronger on the outside of the tank, then inside. I'm running extra carbon in the tank in case it is the tank that smells.

the smoke smell might have got into the grain of your woods stand. if this is the case i would just wipe with asoaking wet and soapy(for the fragrance) clothe to get the smell out of the wood. or at least mask it. a fresh coat of paint would be the best bet!!!! also sounds like you got smoke in your carpet and a shampoo is the onlyy thing that WILL ENTIRELY get rid of this smell. Also if you have fabric draps nearby they could use a wash.

In general any fabric will takethe smoke smell in and not let it out short of a good wash or throwing out. Fabreeze and produce like this will not get rid of the smell only mask it untill the perfume in the produce disapates. i occasionally do fire recovery in town and most everything gets tossed.

There was never any smoke, and there is no fabric in the room. The smell is definitely centered around the front portion of the tank. I'll try and clean everything again, as well as the carpet. See what happens then, or maybe it will just disipate on its own.
