i just had the same thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago when the movers moved my 265gal. i had a couple chips but after inspection it was found to be ok, havent filled the tank yet though. i never paid the movers anything and they havent phoned back. the owner of the LFS was on the phone right away with the manufacturer getting their input, so we took some pics and emailed them and everyone is thinking it should be good. so i can only suggest taking pictures and contacting the manufacturer. just to clarify it wasnt the LFS that moved my tank but an actual moving company that damaged it

The front paine actually wraps around the two sides as well, with 2 90 degree bends in it. not so easy to replace. It was custom ordered from aqua giant on 170th street, dual overflows, etc... Not something they normally carry. I guess I need someone to look at it,to see if it is okay. Fixing it may be my only option.

i totally understand your frustration. i could have killed the guys when they did it to my tank. their response, we did the best we could with something so big. they changed their tone when i told them contact their insurance company.

I would be very leary of setting up a tank with a big chip in the glass. Think of all the damage that could happen if that pane decided to let go. 200G is a lot of water. (I won't even get into the livestock once it is stocked. I'd be willing to bet the warranty on the tank would be void as well.

Not sure what you mean by fixing it as the only way to fix it would be to replace the entire pane that is chipped. If it is special order.... $$$ for the movers insurance company.

It is a glass tank, 1/2". Manufactured in China. I had to wait for quite a while to get it in. That is part of the problem. My old tank is still set up at the other house. All my critters are in it, waiting for a new home. That is why I wanted to fix it, I have until November 1 to get out of the old house. I WAS going to have the new tank ready for them, but now I may have to wait months to get another tank in..

Arty
take a pic of the chip.
My thoughts on this is (and this is only my opinion) that a 1/8 chip if it is thin and lengthwise should be ok - i don't believe that will affect the overall structural integrity of the glass pane because the water pressure is evenly spread througout the seams and panes of the glass. If for whatever reason the pressure in your tank will be higher at the location of the chip, then I would be more concern.
Also look at the chip with a magnifying glass to see if there is any hairline cracks that could potentially expand later.
