I have been swimming in Hawaii over 30 times and I still have yet to see a yellow tang, lots of parrot fish, sea turtles, eels, but no yellow tangs

nope the brown tang is the native tank to the Hawaiian islands, the yellow tang can come from all over and just collected through Hawaii. so Christmas islands ect on boats that return to Hawaii and ship from there.

Not to say there isn't any but they are not as common of a tang in Hawaii as people thing because they see them included on Hawaiian shipments.
