Default Miscellaneous (dialup beware)

Some pictures I took while on a work trip (I can't very well work ALL day, and Houston has not one, but two!!! public aquariums! How cool is that! ) Anyhow here are some shots that worked out that may be of interest:

Jawfish (Moody Gardens)

Hawkfish (Moody Gardens)

Sawfish (Downtown Aquarium)

Wobbegong (Downtown Aquarium)

Wolf Eel (Downtown Aquarium)

Clams (Moody Gardens)

Some really cool loaches I saw at a Houston LFS

... and ... I guess tigers like to swim, so that makes it aquarium related? I guess this is where they go now that Sigfried and Roy have kind of (cough cough) retired? (Downtown Aquarium)

Also saw some dart frogs. This one was at the Downtown Aquarium. Moody Gardens had more exhibits but my camera battery ran out when I got to them.

And, what the heck, a freshwater ray (Downtown Aquarium)

Thanks for the nice words everyone. I took a lot more pictures but I'm still learning the ins and outs of the camera and unfortunately a lot of them just didn't turn out.

Willow actually I'm back now (didn't bring a USB cable so the pictures were posted after my return to home!), but oh well. Maybe I'll check out his store if there's a next time. I might have checked out that store the last time I was down there a couple years ago, the name sounds kind of familiar. Is he just off the Beltway 8 north of Westheimer sort of thing?

I've been to the outfit in Kemah as well (3 years ago) but I thought it was more just a restaurant? To me it's a bit odd to see a place that's both a seafood restaurant AND public aquarium. Isn't it a bit of a conflict of interest?? Also they have some very odd ideas (almost moded or dated, in my view) as to what makes an interesting exhibit. After being involved in the hobby for so long, I suppose, one gets an privledged view of what really is "forefront thinking" and what really is ideas of more of a "been there, done that, shouldn't be doing it anymore" kind of thing. And the white tigers ... although I thought they were very interesting to see, I really don't see how they fit into a public "aquarium." Although I don't regret having gone to both, but for the money and the time I must say that I thought Moody Gardens in Galveston was a more worthwhile visit. Ideas much closer to the leading edge, more exhibits, and better planned and laid out exhibits, and so on.
