Not sure about local, but industrial plastics and paint in Calgary will ship them no problem.

Some of the bigger hobby or craft stores have bulk acrylic rod in different sizes. You can also use those horizontal blind adjustment rods too. The replacements are available in most hardware stores. I don't think they are acrylic , just plastic, but cheap.
