Default Discus lovers, planted tanks or BBT?

How many of you have planted tanks and how many have bare bottom tanks (BBT)?

Also, what other tank mates do you have with your discus and why?

I have a planted tank with silica sand bottom about 3 inches or so.
Tank mates include yoyo loaches, hillstream loaches, farawella catfish, botia loaches and german blue rams.

The blue rams hang at the top, the yoyos at the bottom and the rest flutter around the rest.

If your goal is the biggest fattest discus the go bare bottom and do a water change a day and feed high quality meat foods frequently.

I have mine juvies in a barebottom with Rummynose Tetras, Otos and some endlers. It's much easier to keep the tank clean and feed 5 - 6 times a day when they are still so small (less than 6 inches).

Once they are adult, I'll move them into a planted tank with a substrate. I lost way too many discus not going barebottom from the get go.
