Default Ca Reactor Media

A freind and fellow canreefer uses his old dead pieces of coral in his reactor. I'm thinking of doing the same to save costs and plus we cant get media in our town. Does anybody else do this and is there any precautions I have to take before putting the coral in my reactor? I'm not doubting my freind, just looking for more opinions.

I've added old skeletons back in via reactor, never noticed anything to cause concern. Technically it's perfect media in the right proportions to build corals I suppose it could introduce slightly higher PO4 than natural media, but probably nothing to worry about.
