Default Refugiums

So, it is my understanding that a below tank refugium for growing pods is quite useless as the pods get minced up by the return pump. Is this true? I'd like to increase the pod population by adding more rocks in the sump (I don't have space for a hang on fuge either), but if it won't work, then maybe I'll hold off on spending cash on some more live rock. What are your experiences?

Any help would be appreciated.

Apparently pods not making it through a return pump is largely a fairy tale, there have been some posts on it on RC. I would do a search and see what you can come up with.

I imagine it's not great to get a ride through an impeller but indeed it's not a guaranteed death sentence. I think above-tank refugium is nice if you can swing it but if that's not possible a below-tank refugium is better than none at all.
