Default Tank Size dimensions

Hello everyone,

I've adopted 2 tanks from a friend who decided she no longer wanted them.

I currently have 1 10g reef tank running containing 1 clown, 1 sandsifter, 1 gorgonian coral and 1 turbo snail).

I would like to set up these other 2 tanks, but am not sure how many gallons they are.

Is there a formula to determine how many gallons??

First tank: 30 X 13 X 17

Second tank: 24 X 10 X 16

Thanks,
Pam

Here is a handy dandy calculator for you:

Hope this helps, good reefing

Hi John,

That URL is now a 404, but thanks I'll keep looking.

Cheers,

Is there a formula to determine how many gallons?? = L X W X H divided by 231

First tank: 30 X 13 X 17 = 28.7

Second tank: 24 X 10 X 16 = 16.6

Hey Rich,

Thank you. It looks as though I have acquired a 28g and a 17g tank.

And thank you Steve, just before I wrote this thank you to Rich, I saw your posting

Can you have reef acquariums with a 28 and 17g tanks?

I know I have a 10 gallon, but it's very plain and was just something I was experimenting with before I lay down the money for all of the necessary equipment.

Could you successfully create and keep a reef acquarium with either one of these tanks?

There's a whole community devoted to small tanks: http://www.nano-reef.com

What kind of gorgonian do you have?

Smaller tanks are generally more difficult for beginners because the smaller water volume is less stable (or so I have read), they also provide less options for aquascaping. That being said lots of people have nano-tanks, check out nano-reef for lots of info on smaller tanks. http://www.nano-reef.com/

I was told in another forum that it was a purple frilly and that it could be a Pterogorgia guadalupensis.

I am however not sure.

I'd upload a pic, but I don't know how to on this BB.
