Default Sun Coral

just have a quick question for you guys. i have a sun coral (only been in my display for about 5 days now) and it never fully opens to eat... i dont have a picture at this time, but i will post one tomorrow. if you can imagine the step by step pictures that people post of them opening, they are about a picture or 2 away from being all the way out haha. they have very short tenticles and are able to eat mysis shrimp but just never open... tips? thanks in advance

They are night feeders, but can be trained to open day time to. You can crush (grind) 4-5 mysis shrimp or some baby brine shrimp, can add few drops of Selcon if you have and you can try to stimulate them to open.

What is your water quality?

I know that they are night feeders, I'm trying to train them to open around 9, then when the actinics go off at 10 they can continue to be wide open. Sg is 1.024 and everything else is right around where it should be. I even got up at 2am last night to see If they had opened more and thy had not

I have some black sun polyps ... They took awhile to get cozy in my tank .. About a week and a half before they opened full ... Feed them lots in the beginning .... And when they get happy feed them 2 to 3 times a week ... Try to make sure every head gets some food ... I have to feed my cleaner shrimps before I feed the sun polyps ... Or they just steal the food from the sun polyps ...a fun and rewarding coral .. Good luck and enjoy

that is what I had to do Eric was feed mine some times 2 times to day just to get them to eat and come out. and if the coral came in recenlty from a store it could be just a matter of a few extra days.
