Default mp10 vs anything else

i just bought a 12g CAD lights tank, it has everything built into it but i want to get another power head of some kind. i know the mp10 is the "bmw" of power heads but is it really going to be any better in a 12g than say an hydor koralia nano or something like that.

i guess im justing wondering if it would be worth spending the money on upfront or should i just stick with a cheep one for now.

this is my first tank and i dont plan on putting a lot in it for now, maybe a few fish and some softies.

depends what you want to keep. I like the option of pulsing flow. If your just looking into some soft corals i would buy like a 6025

it can depend on what you want to keep, but the mp10 has 2 advantages and thats a small footprint in your nano, and function (sleep mode, feed mode, wave maker etc.). you can always upgrade to one later..hehe

ive seen a few mp10s on ebay recently for under 200 but they have what im assuming an older model controller, its not the white one with the knob and trippy lights. its just a little box that says vortech

Personally, I would go for the vortech..... Any other powerheads will look like a football in a nano..... And you can adjust the output to suit your needs..... And you will have it for the upgrade

My vote is for a Koralia.

Same flow (roughly, see latest issue of Advanced Aquarist on pump flow) for 1/10 the cost. Put the money to fish, coral or other more important equipment.

At worst, if you hate it you will only be out $30 maybe less if you see to another reefer.

You probably don't know what your next tank will be - perhaps a 90 gallon too large for a MP10 or perhaps you will get out the hobby.

This is a weak vote though... I bought a used MP10 on impulse for my first tank!

same flow?......a MP10 will put out 1500 gph according to the manufacturer, 2460 gph according to the test....... the koralia that compares to the MP10 is the K5 at 1650 gph and 2600 gph respectively.....have you seen the size of a K5?
