I have a 33 gallon long as a sump and I can already see the challenge in making this a reef. This would probably be perfect for zoes, softies and some LPS. But with SPS, I would think it'll be growing out of the water in no time.

It's already been done, my friends uncle started one up about Christmas last year, it was using 2x54w t5 HO for lighting and running 2 k3, no skimmer.

He had a simplicity approach with smaller mounds of live rock and mushrooms and zoas around the bottom, Xenia and some plating monti.

It can definitely be done, I was going to tear down my 33 long planted and contemplating another reef although 2 salty tanks is more than I can handle ATM....

For me, the challenge would be the point, not the reason to avoid.
I think with the right rocks, you could make a stunning reef.

I would just move sps into my 50 or 95 if they started to outgrow the tank.

I've seen some narrow/shallow tanks before but never anything that I thought was exemplary.

I'm scared to go in their basement storage.
it's a glass jungle in there.
