Default Tank just went sexual

Just happened really quickly. Tank was fine an hour ago. Now, it's a white out. I don't have macro algaes so it isn't that. The only thing that I can think of with the capability to make the whole tank white is my giant RBTAs. I also have a large fox coral and frogspawn. Maybe one of those.

No clams? Mine did that 2 or 3 weeks ago with my clams. But I think the RBTA could do it also...

Nope, no clams. They didn't make it after the lighting change and I didn't buy new ones.

Did your Bubble tip go through a power head? I had that happen to me 4 years ago and it had the same affect on the water .

My last GBTA did this to my 20 gallon.... it looked like it was smoking and the tank was a white out.

I happened to see it just before bed one night and did a massive water change immediately. What is also crazy though... is that once my GBTA did this, my snails also started to breed simultaneously. It was very cool to watch.... just not before bed ha ha!

Thats my guess anyhow. BTA.

I wonder... does anyone care enough to read signatures if you make them really small? I would not. I would probably moan and complain, read three words and swear once or twice. But since you made it this far, please rate my builds.

No, nothing went through the powerhead. Yeah, the RBTA is my guess. Those things keep growing and growing and not splitting in my tank. They are monsters.

Sadly, I lost a well established fat dwarf angel as a result of this. There isn't an ammonia spike yet. The inverts appear to all be fine so far. I measured the oxygen this morning at 10:30 and it was only 47%. Obviously, night time oxygen would have been even lower. I haven't run a skimmer in over a year and had meant to start it up again. Just didn't get around to it. It would have helped oxygenate the tank. In hindsight, I should have kept the lights on overnight to prevent the oxygen levels from going down.

Just do a healthy water change and you'll be fine. I never lost anything when t happened in my 20... but I caught it in the act.

Sorry for the loss. Good luck.

Default Handling spawns fyi if it helps....

For what it's worth, and understanding you don't have clams, here's a link you may find worth reading: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/8/inverts

The drop in oxygen and potential for decay from dead spawn can cause huge ammonia spike.

my frogspawn spawned like that many times in the past, i used to leave it for a day or two so it would be a form of food, then yes i would do two or three 30% water changes within the next few weeks
