Algae filters... do you use them?

Like the topic says - does anyone use them? I am more interested in something like an algae screen growing in your sump that you pull out and scrape off once a week as opposed to a simple refuge with macro's growing in it (altho I like the refuge idea, I dont think I can incorporate it in my current tank, but I could put a 12"x12" screen in my sump...)

If you do use one, what is your experience so far? good, bad or?
