Hi all.

Where is the best place in town to buy good live rock... I mean the stuff that actually has coraline algae, some small corals, macro algae or stuff like that.

I have been checking out the LFS I have found so far in town, but the live rock for sale here seems like all base rock.

I got some decent rock from Golds a few months back ... nice coraline growth and quite porous

Cheers

The best live rock right now is at Ocean on centre st. It is Fiji Branch rock, so it is porous and light, and looks like broken coral. I think it is About eight bucks a pound. Not much in the way of coraline, but still a good looking product.

Ohhh, but I hate branch.. it just doesn't look right in a tank unless you put a couple of them by themselves.

For some reason Kelowna, BC had a few off the road map marine stores that must have been stuck in the loop somehow. Great stuff for ok prices, and now that I've checked it out a few times, Im not all that impressed with BA

Don't worry too much about the corraline. Over time the rock will produce its own. Just add light and Ca. Find a type of rock you like, ie. marshall island, Fiji, etc. I usually cycle my tanks for a month with no light, and most of the corraline is gone after that. Comes back very quickly though.
