Default Hanna Phosphate Checker Help

OK so I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong. But I just can't get a reading from my new Hanna Checker.

This is what I'm am interpreting the instructions to mean
1) Push button to turn on checker
2) Wait until C1 is on display and add water sample without reagent
3) Push button
4) C2 is displayed and push button again (not changing the sample)
5) 0.00 is displayed
6) swap sample with sample that has reagent
7) push and hold button to get 3 min count down
Problem is I never get 3 min count down it just goes back to C1

Anyone see where I've gone wrong?

J

I don't have one of the new units myself but I seem to recall trilinearmipmap said something about that or something about timing of tests at least, in his review thread. Here's the link: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=63911

This is what i do with the PO4 Checker that makes life a little easier at least for me. This method utilizes both vials provided in the kit.

*vial #1 = SW only
*vial #2 = SW + reagents

mix vial #2 outside of the checker before turning it on and time it for 3 minutes. when the timer gets to about 45 seconds left do the following:

1. Press button to turn on checker
2. wait for C1, insert vial #1
3. press button (wait for it to calibrate)
4. C2 is displayed (wait until vial #2 is done its 3minutes outside before putting it in)
5. once vial #2 is inside press the button
6. it'll give you an instant reading.

I found this easier as you can premix everything outside before starting and its just a simple swap of the vials to get your reading.

hope that helps.

Hi there,
I just received package with my checker from Oceanic and i did some tests, how can I tell if the checker is actually working properly? I tested water from my tank and reeds - 0.00 (I don't think so, based on problems what I have right now) New mixed water - 0.00 too, water from tap - 0.00. I followed instruction included with checker, i did what OC-Eugen suggested, some results, what i'm doing wrong???
Thanks
