Default Skimmer wet/dry??

What does everyone think about dry or wet skimming, what is the best way to remove organics.
I have a MR-2

On a 300 gallon system with a medium bio load.
Any idea what is best and fastest would be appreciated.
My nitrates are 50ppm and i have just done a 50 gallon water change.
