Default External Hard Drive Repair - Calgary

Long story short Lacie has been giving me the run around on my 1TB external hard drive. Sent it in for repairs and on the repair letter it strictly said "please send the hard drive back for data recovery if it cannot be repaired". I guess they understood this as "send a replacement", which they did. So after multi emails they did find my original hard drive and are sending it back to me.

Anyone in the Calgary area have any recommendations on data recovery? The hard drive is powering up but the computer is not recognizing it, it was as a minor problem but has turned into this.

Please help, wedding pictures, baby pictures and my b**** are on the line.

Thanks,

Steve

Let me guess Seagate Hard Drive... I had the same problem and was able to fix it. There is a long thread about how to fix it on the internet but you will need some parts to get it going. Coming towards Jasper anytime soon... and is it a Seagate? If it is a seagate go to their website and check if it needs a firmware update.... http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/cr...p?DocId=207931 . You will need to input the serial number and model number to find out. If it does require the update PM me and I will give you more info towards a possible fix.

If your handy with a screwdriver, remove the HD from the USB case and mount the drive directly in a computer. If the drive is not readable then you will probably have to send it to a data recovery outfit which can be very expensive.

i cant believe i kno this answer!
there is a place on center street on the right side as your coming from downtown
its just near the top of the hill, but anyways, they restore lost data from hard drives, i know of a few online utilities but they cost alot,. a very alot.
so if you really really need this data that place will do it.

Thanks for the replies. It is actually a Lacie unit, the one shown below:

http://www.lacie.com/ca/products/product.htm?pid=11062

I think it must be a problem with the hard drive itself or else it would of been a quick fix for Lacie. I know that data recovery is a costly process so i was just seeing if any one could help a canreefer out with some "recession pricing".

Thanks,

Steve

anyone know of a reputable and of course cheapest place for data recovery in bc? i am in the same predictament. my external hard drive failed and even when placed internally my bios does not reconize it although it does power up and spins (possible clicking sounds). this drive contains all of my family photos for the past number of years. i will spend the large $$$ if needed but if i can get it done for cheaper then why not. i'd rather have it done right the first time rather than a failed attempt and possibly losing the data
sorry for the hijack just seeing if any bcers reading this have any suggestions.

HIJACKER......kidding......best of luck with yours!

DREEF i should have the drive back by next week, still in a battle with Lacie. You will most likely have it in your hands by then. I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Steve
