Default Bad live rock

Hello all,

i just got some live rock recently but they are covered with hair aleage and other bad staff.

I tried cooking the rock but the rock still has alot of hair on it. Its that safe to put in my new tank(1 weeks only).

Is that another way?

How long did you cook it for? I would try a more complete cook before putting in your tank if I were you.

You may want to research a bit more. I think you may have misunderstood the term "cooking" . If you search the forum I think you will find the correct way of doing it. I think it takes weeks if not months.

Oh, you cooked it on the stove! Some people do this, it's no unheard of, but it's hugely detrimental to the rock.

Read about cooking live rock in the link in my signature, also read the guide on hair algae. That should help you out a lot.

Here is a link to Myka's guide to cooking rock.
Myka's Guide to Tank Cycling, and Live Rock Curing & Cooking

There are other links to her guides under any of her replies. You should read them because there is alot of useful info. She knows what she's talking about.
I read this before I "cooked" my live rock.

When I "cooked" my live rock it was for at least a month if not a bit longer. Otherwise its just like being in the tank with the lights off overnight.

I cooked mine for almost 2 months.
Out of curiosity how did your house smell after boiling the rock?
