Default ultra lith--and mixed reef (or not mixed?)

i have a mixed reef, SPS and softies. if i use the FM lith system would it be more benificial to have a SPS specific tank as well as a specific softie tank vs. a mixed reef?

Hi

To answer this correctly you need to understand the war between soft corals and SPS in the wild, never the twain shall meet basically.

The reason being soft corals expell a much more potent toxin in the water than SPS and so will always win the battle. So what you will find is that the softies will dominate and the SPS will stuggle.

I know some tanks have both but I have yet to be over impressed with mixed softie SPS systems as you are going against the laws of nature.

I have noticed that softies do benefit from this Ultra program. I have a couple of softies and SPS in a side tank that is connected to the main tank and they seem to get along well. In fact the growth on the softies is better than I expected. A mixed reef tank works better. As I started out with a SPS dedicated tank and found out that the fish contribution plays an important part in the Ultra System too.
