Default Triggerfish

I was just wondering about peoples experiences with keeping "reef safe" triggers in their reefs. Ive been debating for a long time picking one up for my tank and was wondering which species to go with and what to watch for. I was thinking either a blue jaw or niger.

I have both in my 240 and have no problems. Make sure if you have shrimp they are large or they will become a meal.

+1 on this.

I did lots of research into Nigers a while ago. I was going to get one for my tank but ultimately decided not too. I also got feedback about them rearranging corals that are not mounted in place. They also get pretty big so they need a large tank.

I have a crosshatch and a niger and have not had any problems and nothing has been rearranged (mind you the smaller sps are epoxied down, but some of the larger ones are free reining with no probs and my LPS are not epoxied and I have had no issues.

I am wondering whether those trigger keepers who posted noticed that the original poster has a 90 gallon tank.\
Are you recommending a niger which grows to 18 inches to the poster? I noticed that all of you have very large tanks.

That's the size they're being sold at. They can get to 14".

The Blue Chin would be a good choice, IMO.

Saragussum Triggers have an adult size of 25cm or roughly 9-10". Too big for a 90G. Triggers should be treated like large tangs when it comes to tank size. They are very active fish.

They also tend to get quite aggressive when kept in small tanks. The more room they have, the more peaceful they will be.

I have a Blue Chin, no problems other than being a bit of a pig when it comes to feeding time.
