Default coralife super skimmer question

ive been running a 125 on my 55 gallon for about 2 years and its basically been a pain in the a$$ since day 1. last night i took the bubble trap off for cleaning and kinda forgot to put it back on, tonight when i was checking everything my skimmer seems to be working better than it ever has. does anyone else run without the bubble trap? would it be bad for the tank just to leave it off?

Default skimmer

i ran my tank with the trap off.
cut the hose shorter from the pump to the skimmer and you,ll even get better skimming.
