Pump/Plumbing question...

Howdy all.
I am about to pick up a quietone 6000 that has a 1' outlet but my in situ plumbing is 3/4'...

Is this doable or no no?
what effects will this have?

You can do it, but you will get reduced flow due to the internal friction of the reduced diameter.

meaning same amount of water being pushed through a smaller diameter than what pump is rated at will make for less GPH?

Any idea on the percentage loss?

If my rough calculations are even close to correct you'll probably get about 120% more head pressure ultimately meaning about 75% less flow. That's comparing 3/4" pipe to 1" pipe. But it really depends on your pipe network more than anything.

I would re-plumb to 1.25" pipe, that should give you even more flow than the 1".

I won't replumb.
Just put the plumbing in in the first place and the pump I am upgrading from is so far inferior to the quiet one 6000 that I think I'll still come out on top.

Good learning experience in any case just to see.

Just out of curiosity, what IS the math behind that 75% loss Phelps?

Complex iterations to solve for the pipe friction coefficient and then a little bernoulli, but to be honest I can't remember exactly how to do it anymore I just happen to still have the program in my old calculator

I think my fluid mechanics days are behind me now, well I hope so anyway.

I also just remembered about the RC head loss calculator, that would have probably been easier.

calc says I'll still have 811 GPH, plenty for me but a huge loss from the 1500 it has at 0 head....
Knew there was a calculator somewhere....

Don't forget about how fast your tank's overflow drain is. I have a quietone 6000 on my tank but had to "T" it off to reduce flow cause my drain bulkhead would never keep up otherwise. Great pump choice IMO, not that I have lots of experience with other pumps but the quietone has been working great on my tank for the last year and a half.
