I tried it, I didn't think it was worth the time, They flavour difference between Freshly roasted and ground to just freshly ground was not that noticable.

When I bought the beans (hear in toronto) they showed me how to roast them in a frying pan. Very similar to making popcorn on the stove.

I haven't been roasting lately. I was roasting in a hot air popcorn popper, and I got the beans at http://www.greencoffee.ca/. Great espresso!

I used to live downwind of a cafe that roasted their own beans (why isn't there a puke-face icon??) ....you mean people actually bring that smell INTO their own homes?!? Or does it smell better when done in a frying pan?

I've been roasting my coffee for about 3 years now. I purchase the beans from www.birdsandbeans.ca.
I have a Swissmar Alpenroast roaster and roast about 500g/week.
I do notice a huge difference in the taste between store bought and home roasted. It's like the difference between canned peas and fresh garden peas.

It can produce a lot of smoke, so I roast out on the deck, no matter the weather.

I fresh grind and French press but I have never heard of home roasted.....

Visit the www.coffegeeks.com forum.
They have a Western Canada section and offer reviews of roasters, grinders, brewing equipment, etc.

I don't know what planet I have been on, but I never even thought you could roast your own coffee at home!!! WOW! Do I have to order it, or can I buy some at a local store in the raw form to see what it is like? I live in Alberta, and I see you are all in BC. Also I like the dark roast coffees and always thought the beans had to be a certain kind prior to the roasting process.

I remember a coffee place told me that coffee beans in their green form was used by tribesmen for energy since it has to highest caffeine content. Is this true by any chance?
