Default JL Aquatics Order

I am looking at the Instant Ocean sale at JL Aquatics. With shipping and tax the salt only comes to 77.56. That is pretty amazing. Anyone in for some? I think I will place an order for a couple.

Isn't it $70 at Big Als? Or has the price gone up again. I can't remember what I paid for my last bucket.

I believe the last time I was at big als, it was 79.99 a bucket. I am not sure on the Calcium content. Does anyone know if there is a deal on shipping more than one pail or do you pay the same no matter what unless you get a hundred.

I think it's personal preference. If I'm not mistaken (and that is a very big if), Kent salt is IO salt with maybe a few additives thrown in. So Kent salt should theoretically be more (ew, I'm about to use an overused early 90's business cliché) "value added."

Maybe Kent is thus more akin to IO "Reef Crystals" which again is standard IO but with "stuff" added. I used Reef Crystals for a time when starting up because I liked the idea but in the end I found the cost to be too prohibitive (you can get good deals on IO, but rarely if ever on Reef Crystals). So I went back to IO.

They say it's personal preference. If you try both and find you like one better than the other then go with that.

I myself use IO ... I haven't really noticed any problems with it. I don't think you'll really regret either brand. So far, I haven't had any Ca or Alk values that I wasn't able to compensate for with the reactor. I've never tested for Mg.

BTW, I'm thinking that $70 must be too good to be true. I can't beleive BA would have an edge on J&L for pricing .... Chris, did you explore how much shipping would be impacted for additional buckets purchased? The only worry I have is that, say for example, 5 buckets of salt exceeds some shipping threshold and bumps up the shipment into some higher pricing bracket. Maybe not, hopefully not, but maybe worthwhile double-checking beforehand..

All i know is here in New brunswick, they want $100.00,for a 100 gallon mix.And it not IO its reef crystal. So it still way cheaper for us down here to order from J@L and get a 200 gallon mix for about $100.00 with taxes and shipping.Still a good deal in my book

Well, with shipping on their site. Unless the shipping part is wrong. Each bucket no matter how many you get will cost. 77.56 each. So I guess it really doesn't matter if you pool the order or not. So if Big Al's is at 79.99 or 85.59 with GST. A savings of 8.03 and they ship it right to your door. However, the insurance thing may up your cost by a buck or two.

Chris

PS I have never had a problem with IO either. And I don't use a CA reactor. Of course I don't having any SPS either

I paid $74.99 @ Big Als last week for a pail of IO. (I made Rick carry it out to my truck too...) "Oh, my aching back"

Hey Pluff, can't you just dry out some Atlantic Ocean water and then rehydrate it back into you tank.

Welcome to the board.

Seriak - should have bought during the free shipping sale in March.
