Default How to get started.

I suppose I will write some of these things as I have a bit of time.

Starting the Reef/Marine hobby can an overwhelming task to some or a simple one to others. Do some research, keep some notes in a notebook, talk to other hobbyists and talk to your LFS but be careful to take their word and of course everyone else's word's with a grain of salt. "Some LFS (local fish store's) may give you some information on necessary equipment that may not be so necessary but they will recommend it because they may want to get rid of it or just not have the current/up to date knowledge of the hobby. Fellow hobbiests may be a better source of knowledge, for the one reason that they are not trying to sell you something. They are merely just passing on information or experiences that they have encountered.

1. Decide what your goal is in this hobby and decide if you can meet that goal with regards to time and commitment to the living things you plan on keeping.
2. Try to plan your animals you intend to keep.
3. Plan your equipment around the animals you intend to keep.

Overall, some intensive research can save you money, time and maybe a creatures life if you do it right!

I hope this post was informative and is what we are looking for in this forum.

Cheers

Default Well...from another viewpoint...good advice

I just thought I should add that Canadian Man has always given sound advice.
Looking at this his post and this forum, some links to a few web-pages (god knows there's hundreds) might be helpful.

Also, my 2 cents worth is never believe what you have researched until you come across the same information a few times. In this hobby there is a lot of contradictory information, and marketing.

Gotta agree, Jon has given some great advise to me personally. He's made my adventure into SW much easier and is always willing to help!

Walter

BTW, I still have to get over to get that sand!
