Default Cultivating Macroalgae

I have some hallimeda struggling in the back of my tank. It is attached to a piece of LR. I would like to prune it and move some of it forward to the front of the tank.

Has anyone here had success with this? Hallimeda apparently can live in the sand substrate or on rock. I thought I would glue the pruning to a rock frag which I could then partly bury in the sand. Would this work?
