Default Encrusting Monti Question

I was just wondering if anyone has ever had two encrusting montipora corals grow into eachother? How did they react? Did they just stop growing in that direction or did one coral start to take over and kill the other. Just curious. Thanks.

Had pieces of green and purple/brown digita that ended up growing into each other, then the green started growing over the other. Thought was rather neat until all of a sudden both colonies crashed. Since both colonies had grown over a big piece of LR just left in the tank though even though algae started growing on the skeletons.

After 3-4 months of not a hint of life, the green started coming back.

Here's a old picture taken before die-off.
