Default Cleaning the sump

I've been getting some detritus buildup in my sump, and I have dealt with it by:
a) putting a powerhead in there to keep things from settling; and
b) draining it periodically to clean it well.

I'd like to put together a "powered siphon". Has anyone built one? What powerhead or pump did you use?

Hey Matt, the old Hagen powerheads had that air inlet at the water outlet, it will suck through an air hose and you can use that as a vacuum.
