Default Refugium size

Hi,
I have a 28Gal tank that I am tranforming to reef with softies/polyps.
I am currently running a Fluval 304 with just charcoal and sponge (which I rinse every second day.
If I were to setup a refugium what size would I require?
Jim

As far as I know (which isn't very far) Go with the biggest you can. Whatever your stand can handel or wherever your hidding it. You can go as small as using a hang on filter or a huge tank in the basement. The more macros you have the more nutrient export. Of course I'm sure you can overdo anything.

Thank you for the quick response Trix.
Now I have more decisions to contemplate and figure out how to implement them. Would I have to cycle the refugium before connecting to main tank?
I am new to this hobby and it is very much involved.

I'm quite new as well. (so take me with a grain of salt). I don't think there would be much of a cycle time because you need the nutrients from the main tank to grow your macro's. If your planning on using new sand or rock there probably would be a bit of cycle. If that is the case depending on how you choose to set it up using water from your water changes would help speed up the process.
