Default temporary adapter?

i just got new lights and i shows them useing a temporary adapter on the socket outlet. what is the purpose and do i need one. will my lights get wrecked if i dont have a temporary adapter? Any info would be great thanks.

Do you mean a 3-prong to 2-prong plug, by-passing ground? If so you may fry yourself and the fish. Not safe!
