Default home depot pumps

anybody ever use any of the pumps they sell at home depot? seems like they are ALOT cheaper because they aren't a specialty item...

it's a sump pump and not reef safe. it contains oil i belive, check aquarium pro's there was a thread on there last year about how some guy destroyed his reef and all his equipment using a "cheap" pump.

Those pumps are rated for intermittant use only, they would probably burn out if run continuously.

I got cheap when I first started my 70g Reef and sump so I bought one of those from HD (without a float switch and it was blue) but anyway, IT increased the heat in my tank by over 10 degrees, I could do nothing to cool it below 90 degrees. The pump actually didnt wreck my tank, my DIY mentallity did, I decided to use a radiator and closed loop system to try and cool it down, ended up copper posioning everything dead.
Here is the real kicker: Home Depot Pump $90.
Quite One 4000 $120
Dead tank $500.

Nuff Said.

Rona carries magdrive pumps in the pond area.
I dont know how the prices compare to pet shops, because I get staff pricing.
They also carry beckett stuff too.

I'm using a little giant FE2000 mag drive pump that I bought from a plumbing wholesaler for 128 bucks. Seems to be working fine. I hope it continues that way. 90 gal tank, 33 gal undersump, rated 1450 @0'head, 1200 @ 4'6" It is in Little Giant's Pond Pro catalogue. All ABS housing. I've heard ABS is bad because of petroleum content though. don't know for sure.

ABS is what 99% of your in-tank plastics are (think powerheads, the plastic trim on the tank etc)
