Default jaw fish

I guess I am just not meant to have a jaw fish. Every time I get one it finds the 1.5" gap I have in my lid and goes carpet surfing. The longest I have been able to keep one on the wet side of the glass is 2 weeks. They are very cool but I guess they are not meant for my tank.
BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
