I do. Whenever I add a new fish, I turn my 40w Lifeguard on for 2 weeks as a precaution because the added stress of new fish usually sees a few specks of ick pop up on my otherwise healthy fish (old & new). IMO the lower wattage sterilizers are only good for small tanks & as water clarifiers, which is why I prefer a 40w.

I run my coralife 6X-18 Watt UV on my 75 gallon. Have never had an outbreak of ich, whether or not this is because of the UV i cannot tell you. BUT, it has kept my water crystal clear and it just gives me that sence of safety in case of free floating ich occurs.

By the way, i run mine 24-7

I run one between my refugium and sump...I land new fish in my fuge as a QT tank, I can loop the plumbing so it recirculates, and at that time I turn on the UV, then after everything looks ok, I return the flow between my fuge and sump, watch a few more days, land the fish and turn off the UV.
