Before buying seahorses, do a ton of research on them. Captive bred are much easier to feed than wild caught. WC will require live foods until you are able to train them to eat frozen, if they ever do eat frozen. Make sure your tank is well established with macroalgae for the seahorses to hitch onto. A feeding station is recommended. Low flow and low lights are also recommended, as well as is making it a species tank.

Its hard to get them across the border as many sites dont ship to canada. There are a couple canadian-based sites but ive noticed they are more expensive as they specialize in 'fancy' seahorses. I looked into getting some dwarves and might still do it, but i need them shipped to washington where i can go down, pick them up, and cross the border with them myself.

Ive never really seen the dwarves up here, but some pet stores have them occastionally. I know Pet Gallery on Denman had them but they are closed down now. You might want to contact some local LFS and see when they are getting more in, or ask to specially-order some for you.

Careful...horses are CITES listed. Big trouble if you get caught without permits. IMO, not worth the hassle.

I know, thats the reason why i havent done it yet. Id have to go through tons of paperwork to do it the legal way. Its tempting to "smuggle" them... as stupid as it sounds!

One day i will try! muwahaha

Why would you want a seahorse you find away to frag them?

Yah . . . I've had them before for a year and a half before I had to give them up (waaaaayyy back when they were $20 each and always available anywhere) . . . Gave them up coz I saw a reef tank and decided to convert! But now I finally have the space for two tanks so looking for a species tank (50 gal . . . maybe 2 seahorses and pipefish from JL) . . . how much are they going for nowadays??
