Default Venting???

I've got a DX 12 gal NanoTank from JBL, and have to keep the hood up all the time to keep it cool enough! And, all it has in it is live rock for curing. I'll be transitioning it into a med tank or maybe a nanoreef in the next few weeks.

Two things I've wondered about so far:
1. Has anyone modiifed their hoods to allow for ventilation holes when fully closed?
2. Has anone drilled the back or sides to add a protein skimmer- or does everyone just do frequent water changes?

Thanks!

Robert

lol- so I'll take that as "oh, it's a common issue with Nanos"...

Time to take out the drill I suppose!
