Default Hood completed

Here are a few pictures of the hood I just completed for my 155gal tank.

I have 2x250W Iwasaki with PFO reflectors and 4x110W URI bulbs on an IceCap 660. I'm relying on the internal reflectors with the VHO.

The hood was constructed with solid oak trim and solid core oak vaneer plywood (3/4"). Seven coates of Varathane Clear were used for the interior and two coats of Watco medium walnut with a Mohawk stain on the exterior.

Hi,

Nice hood...looks really good. I am just finishing my hood for my 90....doesn't look nearly as good as yours. Seven layers of polyurethane !!!!! Most cars (or grand pianos) don't even have that many layers of paint.

Have you considered painting the interior of the hood gloss white to act as a reflector ?

Nevertheless...I am also jealous.

- Victor.

Guys, I'm blushing. I'll assure you that this wasn't what I had planned. I worked on this at the shop where I work and my boss gave me a lot of advice. He's a master woodworker. You wouldn't believe some of the things he's made.

Marc, I sanded between coats so it is probably only 5/8" lacquer . You saw my last hood, I wasn't about to take a chance with this one.

Victor, I did consider having the polyurethane tinted to white but decided that with the PFO reflectors I should be alright. I love wood grain. You are probably right though, I don't imagine those internal reflectors are all that great on the URI bulbs.

I should be finished with the stand by mid-week. The outside is done, I just have to add a bottom and do a few little things. I'm trying to correct a mistake I made with the doors. Once the stand is completed I just have to plumb and I'll be adding a school of powder blues in no time .

Again, thanks for the compliments.
