Default Best Digital camera for $500 and under?

I'm looking for something that is a good all around camera. I'd like something that has manual focus/auto focus. I guess best bang for the buck. Also must have accessories available. ie, macro lenses, wide and telephoto.

Anyone?

I think for less then 500 you wont find to much with your expectations but maybe someone else can chime in.

There are alot of camera's that meet that criteria... Most of the Canon's have the features i want, that's part of the problem, there are so many to choose from.

Anyone have any experience with a Canon PowerShot S1? It's under $500...

There is also the Fuji Finepix S3100 - $330

I bought the Canon Power Shot S1 IS with 10x optical zoom a few months back. You will need to upgrade the memory card, but other than that it is a great camera.
I picked this one because of the clarity of the pictures and I could buy a housing for diving. The housing cost almost as much as the camera While I was on vacation I took about 400-500 underwater pictures at around 40-110 feet and they turned out great.

This camera has one big down side, it eats batteries so have lots

I'm tossed between that one and the Minolta (Couple posts up) It seems to have alot of the same (or some better) than the Canon. One thing it does have much better are the batteries They rate it as one of the best for the battery life...

Decisions, decisions... We are taking a vacation out the island (First time at the ocean!) I want a better camera than I have to take tonnes of photo's
